... is as spectacular as the views over the town of Meiringen and the Aare valley. The falls themselves create a huge cloud of spray – not surprising as they drop 250m, and there is of course a cutout of Sherlock Holmes to have your picture taken with; how could I not?

We walked up the (very steep) path to a viewing balcony, but aging lungs and knees prevented us from going the whole way ...

John and I used our vouchers to get a Solero, a Cornetto, and two Kinder eggs (Hi, Yvonne!) at the shop. There was also a bin of free Toblerone samples on the ground floor. I love European rest stops.

We drove into the Lauterbrunnen Valley around 5:15. Since ...

... on the way up. The railway was built overa few years about 100 years ago, hard to imagine the kind of conditions the poor tunnellers would have had to work in, it was super cold. We finally arrived, but I felt terrible due to the altitude, I was trying to climb just one flight of stairs and halfway up my head was swimming like I'd been through 3 rounds with Tyson. Anyway after several rest stops we climbed the last few stairs and got out onto the glacier and to the top of ...
