... up during the next week (including a hike on a glacier) and I donīt need frostbite.
Tomorrow is a travel day, so probably no update. Our flight is only 1 hour, but there still probably wonīt be much of note and I am not sure about the computer situation at our next hotel. Look for one in 2 or 3 days depending on the computer availability and amount of interesting activites that occur. Hope everyone is well.
Random thought of day. I havenīt talked ...
Sao ...
Ushuaia, Patagonia, Argentina andre_c10002After catching a 5 hour flight to Ushuaia we were immediately hit with the Cold. I got off the plane with shorts on and flip flops to see snow topped mountains outside the Terminal. We stayed in a class hostel called Freestyle Hostel run by a bob Marley look alike. he was one cool dude and met us with a hug at reception. We immediately felt at home and as seems to be a theme to this trip ended up ine the Dublin Pub on the first night.
We took a ...
... then, so we walked briskly, in single file between them, hoping for safety in numbers and with stones ready to bang together to scare off any brave agitants. It was another totally different landscape, again surprising me - I had imagined Antarctic as just flat and white (as, indeed, much of it is) but this was a dark rocky island with mysterious spires of rock jutting out of the sea just beyond ...
Ushuaia, Patagonia, Argentina heinlisenka... 60 miles fr the last 200, and that part was on pavement, so I made it okay. My hands were freezing despite my heated handgrips because my gloves were not waterproof, so I took to Ziploc bags out of my luggage and put one over each hand. Not elegant, but hey, it worked! Ushuaia an interesting town. It feels like a destination, a crossroads. People on all kinds of modes of transportation end their journeys here. Rich ...

Ushuaia, Patagonia, Argentina rogersusieq... sit on the bikes for a photo. Asking us if we really drove from Canada. Big hand shakes, pats on the backs, thumbs up and smiles. We take our pictures and finally escape the masses. Mike and I knuckle tap as we ride away from the sign. The gravel road twists and the dust causes my eyes to water. As we leave the park we cross an old wooden clad bridge the loose boards rattle under our moving tires and I swear the bridge is applauding............................. ... .
Ushuaia, Patagonia, Argentina chemoejito... part of the world just a little bit more than if we had simply stepped out of a pressurised metal tube. As always, time is a luxury. And when you have it, it sure is easy to spend. Bikes are parked up at the Freestyle Hostel, a superb establishment with enthused staff and free beer on arrival! Underfloor heating is most appreciated by our cold wrinkling feet but our timing is all off. Even though it's 10:30PM and still broad daylight, all the restaurants in town have closed, so ...
Ushuaia, Patagonia, Argentina barneyandpier... partly because we are pretending to be real Argentinians but also because the sun doesn't set until 10:45pm at this latitude (if we were in Canada the sun would be setting around 4:30pm this time of year, what we are getting Canada is not...). After a rainy first day in town, the next morning was beautiful. Our first and only important task for the day was to book a tour to visit the local penguins. We opted for a walking tour where we could meet ...
