    ... used to produce power for a long time. Consequently, mills were built here. I haven't read up on all the history of them, but have a few photos of the information. I also went into their visitor centre. They have gone to a lot of trouble to make the valley accessible with walking trails and bits fenced off for safety. I also noticed one part was a designated rock climbing area, with a request for 'no fouling'. I presume they mean dogs?

Today we have been travelling along the edge of a long hillside, looking over to the flat areas towards the west coast, and over Manchester, on our left and up to peaks and moors to our right. We;ve mostly been travelling through rural areas, cows, sheep horses etc, but also through urban areas, the backs of houses, old and new with gardens down to the waters edge.     So this impending scholarship has been in the office conciousness for at least four months now. Colleagues and friends have gotten used to my flitting between work, scholarship and general life responsibilities and have been extremely patient when it has taken me a few moments to switch gear!     ... Huddersfield Narrow canal carry tourists deep into the tunnel, and a really knowledgeable guide provided an interesting and entertaining dialogue throughout. We learned about 'leggers'', who were the two men who sat on the top of the boat, back to back, and with their legs braced against either side of the tunnel, dragged the boat through the tunnel. At the other side of the tunnel, a horse would then drag the boat the rest of the canal journey. ...

    ... get anything I need at the supermarket, although it is a fair walk with heavy items. The bad news is I have just started sneezing and my nose is running. The room supervisor spoke to me earlier, just said hello and let me know if anything is needed. Main thing needed is to stop your staff shouting to each other at top of their voice all afternoon, like hard of hearing fishwives.. Not that relaxing for guests.. But I didn’t say that, of course…
