    ... our campground neighbor gave us about 16 fillets of this local fish (forgot the name, but their like walleyes, he said). Very good eating, especially with a nice c******nay. Went into the well-publicized town of Carlyle to look around. Hah, dog-eared. Dumpy. Run down. Sorry, Carlyle loyalists; you're town left you.

    ... Topeka, and Santa Fe Railroad. The railroad started here in the 1800s and still has massive facilities here. Of course its now all BNSF (Burlington Northern Santa Fe). Karen and I walked just over a mile across town to visit the old, historic Union Station. Its no longer a passenger station, but it has been faithfully restored to its original condition and is beautiful. On our walk back to the Ramada we got caught in a thunder shower. Karen says ...

    ... in Sayre, OK. We wanted to drive through this little town as this was the location for the filming of The Grapes of Wrath. Looking at the old abandoned buildings the dusty roads and the lack of people around I can say that the movie producers probably didn't need to change much. It was a bit depressing but in an odd way it was a neat place to visit after having recently read The Grapes of Wrath.

    We landed in Frankfurt and didn't have to go through customs! I love Germany! Its sooooooooooooooooooo green here! I missed this color after being surrounded by nothing but beige all week long. Nicolle and I are going to try and get Dave Hartley, our art in plein air instructor the past two summers to take a class to Germany to capture the landscape. My sap green would be so toast!
