A home from home
A group of 7 of us stayed at the B&B and thought it was lovely, a real home from home and Dean served up some excellent breakfasts. Soft drinks were also available, included in the room rate, which we thought was a really nice touch and much appreciated. The standard of accommodation was very good although if you have a choice I wouldn't stay in the Purple Haze Room on the ground floor only because we tended to get woken up very early each day with noise from the kitchen. The room itself was great.
All in all we had a wonderful time. The only 'but' in the equation was the lack of servicing of the rooms for the entire week we were there which is something we would expect as standard in far cheaper accommodation. Although Dean runs the B&B as a one man band I think this is an essential service that would only make the B&B an even better place to stay.
Very nice and very laid back but be careful
I stayed at hollywood bed and breakfast for 2 nights and enjoyed it a lot.
It is basically like being at home with someone to cook your breakfast and it is very good.
The room I stayed in was nice , if your into really nice elegance this place is not for you,
but it is clean and fun. It also was not serviced between the 2 days I stayed there. I stay in the area often as I work there during the week and I would say it is one of the best places .
Now the problem....Reservations are diffacult , return calls are slow and although I was promised a room, when I was mid way between Buffalo and Hollywood I got a call that there werent any rooms left. No explanation or suggestions just no room, fortunitly there are many other nice places to stay at the last minute. SUGGESTION- get your reservation in writing and confirm it several times as you get closer to your stay. I also left something there and asked for it to be returned several times and never even got a return call.
Oops, Dean lost the reservation
My husband and I booked 4 nights at the B&B for the end of April. Unfortunately, Dean messed up our reservation and then had no space for us so he put us up at a Marriott over looking a freeway for a night. Not quite the same as staying on the beach. He never did send us any confirmation (paper or email) of our reservation. It was extrememly disappointing since it was our first vacation without our 4yr old son. Dean said he had a room the next night and then two nights after that but who wants to move everynight of a vacation AND be "homeless" everyday between check in at one place and check out at another. Anyway, the vacation was saved thanks to my husband and we did have a great time in the area. Just be careful when booking this B&B, maybe have back up accomodations.
I stayed here at the end of March and I got to see all of the rooms except one so I will review them each individually.
Purple Haze - this room is located on the first floor and has a door that takes you out to the pool. This was probably my least favorite room, because it is on first floor which is noisier than upstairs and the bathroom was my least favorite. Bathroom is completely black with a streak of purple and a pink flamingo showercurtain. True florida kitsch.
East Side Earnies - this room has great views of the ocean and is nicely decorated (v. nice spacious bathroom), but it has french doors which allow for little privacy and if you sleep lightly don't choose this room. It backs up to kitchen and Dean gets up early to make breakfast and if anyone else joins him you won't sleep.
Everglades Suite - this suite is spacious and lovely, but again it is on the first floor and right by the front door.
Marguerites - this room is the most private. It is also the most funky with some pretty interesting antiques. I believe the color scheme was peach. Only problem here was that it is near the pool and you might get a little bug or iguana in your room.
Oceania Suite - I think this is the nicest of the suites. It has great ocean views and is a lovely shade of blue. Since it is upstairs it is a little more private than ones on first floor.
James Jones - this was is significantly smaller than the others but it is more private than the ones dowstairs. I would pick this over all of the ones downstairs if I had a choice.
Floridian - this one opens onto pool and has a really really cool shower. The shower is like a huge walk-in closet and has shower heads coming out of every direction. I would pick this one over any of the ones that are in the main part of the house.
Overall, hollywood b and b was very comfortable. Dean was a terrific host and aside from the morning noise my stay would have been perfect. He provides breakfast and non-alcholic beverages which is a nice touch. He also provides all of the beach paraphenelia that you could possibly need.
The location is terrific and the pool - when heated - is a big plus. One word of warning is that if you stay here I would bide Dean's warning and remember to lock the front door to the house at night. That way no one wanders in.
Also, the bandb is unmarked so make sure you look for the fish mailbox.
Otherwise this is a great place to stay in hollywood beach.
An excellent beach B&B experience!
We stayed with Dean at Hollywood by the Sea for 8 nights, and he was a superb host. As far as we were concerned, it was an ideal B&B experience, basically being a pampered guest in someone's home. It's just that this home is a few steps from the beach in a quiet section of Hollywood Beach. Dean is very down to earth, informal, and eager to make his guests comfortable. As other reviewers have said, his breakfasts are extensive- he'll ask you what you want each morning and his selections were unexpectedly comprehensive (e.g., plenty of different fresh veggies for omelets and real maple syrup for pancakes and french toast- in South Florida no less!). Lots of little bells and whistles-- the run of the kitchen, any and all satellite movie channels on a wide screen TV, chairs and umbrellas for the beach. Dean does a nice job of being helpful and engaging without being intrusive-- a necessary skill for any good innkeeper. In keeping with that style, you can hang out with him and eat in the kitchen as he cooks or sit in a variety of places out by the pool; he's very laid back about such things. He's a Hollywood native, so he has an endless supply of info about the area for any and all tastes and budgets. The B&B itself is very comfy, and Dean has put a tremendous amount of work into it. Expect clean, well-appointed, and kitchy in a South Florida way (e.g., a furry phone and a plastic covered Betty Boop chair in our room). You can easily stay here a week without a car and walk the Broadwalk to many good restaurants. Our favorite was Las Brisas, an excellent Argentinian/Italian restaurant with impeccable service. There are a lot of tourists from Quebec, so many of the restaurants are French-influenced. The closest restaurant is a Japanese/Thai place-- we had mixed experiences there, but Dean swears by the sushi.
For those of you who are more used to very pricey B&Bs and hotels, this may not be the place for you. Dean is a one man operation and does not have the resources to wait on you hand and foot 24/7 (e.g., turndown service, mints on the pillow). He is extremely responsive to any requests, but if you need ceaseless attention from your host, the nearby Westin may be more your speed. However, at less than half the price of the Westin, Dean provides an excellent place to flop by the pool and on the beach, walk on the broadwalk, and eat and drink merrily. We'll be back!
Hollywood by the Sea B & B is a
My husband and I stayed here at the end of January '06 for three nights. Dean is a great host. His breakfasts are awesome. He has different breads, bacon and or sausage, fruit ,juices, and lots of coffee! He will also make you eggs any way you like.
There is a pool on the property which is heated. One lays there among the palm trees enjoying the sun and Dean's stories.
Dean can arrange a massage for you if you desire and he makes great recommendations for dinner!
The B & B is about half a block from the beach and in a nice quiet, safe neighborhood. The rooms are nice and have a/c. My husband and I highly recommend this B & B.
Warm welcome at Hollywood by the Sea B & B
Returned from an extended vacation in Floria recently. Part of our trip included a stay at the Hollywood-by-the-Sea Bed and Breakfast owned by Dean Liotta. We were more than pleased with the experience. The B & B is clean and well-decorated. Its location is adjacent to the Hollywood "Broadwalk" and beach. The area is quiet. The owner prepares a breakfast (all you can eat) that is cooked to order supplemented by fresh fruit, bagels, toast,a variety of juices, etc. Coffee was excellent (a must for us!). We were able to prepare our own dinner there on the grill as well (if one chose to do that). Dean made all who stayed there feel as if we were in our own homes! I cannot say enough about his hospitality! We felt the rates reasonable, especially for this time of year (and on the beach!). We stayed in a suite, which suited our purposes and provided more than enough room.
I would highly recommend this establishment especially if you are a beach lover!
This B&B rates up there with some of the best hotels around when it comes to comfort, location and most of all ambience. Our host, Dean, made us feel as if we were family as did the other guests. this is a great place for the 30 to 55 year old crowd. Relaxing, Dean makes a great breakfast and the kitchen is open all the time for drinks and snacks. the small pool was perfect and the 100 ft. to the beach was way more than we could have hoped for. This is a definite bargain and a great place to relax.
WOW...This place has it all!! My wife and I stayed here on a Valentines weekend getaway..We loved it..First and foremost it is right on the beach.
You walk out a small private gate and past a set of palm trees at the end of the road and your on the beach (about 300ft). Second the place is really eclectic and cool, yet at the same time very comfortable and relaxed. We
stayed in the purple haze room which is decked out in deep purples and a
super comfortable bed and private bath. We had a private back door to our room which was literaly 5 feet to the heated pool. The large private patio is
awesome with tropical plants and assorted displays of quirky modern art that
surrounds the pool. An excellent gas grill is available for quest to use. On valentines night we grilled steaks pool side with candlelight and tiki torches that Dean (the owner/keeper) totaly set up for us. Dean is awesome..He is a local icon ,(full of energy)guy that makes this place a hum with style.
He made us feel right at home and was very informative about local restaurants and things to do. He makes breakfast for everyone every morning, with excellent pancakes, french toast, bacon, fruit ect.
Another cool thing about this place is that it is right on the "boardwalk" which is a large paved running/walking biking trail that parallels the beach lined with low key restaurants and shops. It was a nice perk. The trail goes for about 5-6 miles into a nature preserve.
Overall this was the best B&B we have ever stayed at.(we have stayed at many all across the country)..We will come back..
We stayed here in Feb 2004. The host, Dean Liotta, runs a great and fun little B&B. A far better experience than any of the hotels in Hollywood Beach. The place has a heated pool, home-cooked breakfasts, and great rooms all surrounding the pool/courtyard. We felt right at home. And it's literally a stone's throw from the beach and broadwalk (that's "BROAD", not "BOARD" as it's not made of wood as we found out). We'll be back....
