... and interesting conversations along with exciting scenery!
We left Whittier after the cruise and camped at Wiiliwaw CG. A beautiful and magnificent location! We came here on the recommendation of Linda and Roger, who we meet when camping in Sarah Palin's backyard (Wassilla). Linda and Roger also recommend we go to the Begich Bogg Visitor center.

... the area. Fox Farming almost caused some birds to become extinct on the islands. Went to the Bear Creek Winery for tasting and purchase. Drove back to Soldotna and camped in Centennial Park.

... about weather. No worries, we were on schedule and everything looked fine. Five hours later, they called to say they were canceling our trip and cited weather as the issue.

We don't know if that was the reason or not because it isn't that bad out and other local charters (full) were still going out.

We regrouped and started coming up with another Plan...sightseeing in Homer; halibut fishing on Katchemak Bay; drive on to Seward ...

... water for a picture. I had to photograph it in the net!! :-(

But, those are the rules because the run of kings has been so poor this year--poor enough to close the king fishery. There was a fellow here earlier in the summer, when the kings were making their big run--from New Zealand and fished for 9 days, and he got skunked!!

... and a half, which could be a very attractive asset, but is apparently a dumping ground for unwanted industrial equipment and home to some rather tacky looking development.

After a drive around the town the return trip North up the coast road lead to Soldotna and to check in at the Best Western King Salmon Hotel.
