... and interesting conversations along with exciting scenery!
We left Whittier after the cruise and camped at Wiiliwaw CG. A beautiful and magnificent location! We came here on the recommendation of Linda and Roger, who we meet when camping in Sarah Palin's backyard (Wassilla). Linda and Roger also recommend we go to the Begich Bogg Visitor center.

We arrived in Kenai with scattered sunshine and our campsite is on a bluff overlooking the mouth of the Kenai River that flows into Cook Inlet. Kenai is the largest city on the Kenai peninsula. We are staying here a few days.

Missy and Wendy have the downstairs, Ed and I the middle level, and Holly and Pete the loft. We overlook a meadow and see snowcapped mountains in the distance. Pete, Wendy and I went fishing today but didn't catch anything. We're holding out for that whale ...

... the sockeye season, the count went into the stratosphere at 231,000 fish (a record). The counts continued to be extremely high for the next week. We fished four of the next eight days, getting up at 3 am, driving 1 1/2 hrs to Soldotna, and on the river by 5:30. This fishing stuff is hard work! Catching a 28" fighting sockeye in thigh high ...
