    After unpacking at our motel, we walked through town in the shadows of the mountains. We had dinner at a restaurant which our bus driver had recommended. It was cheap as he’d promised but the food was very average. A little disappointed, we walked back towards our accommodation.     ... crossed the bridge at the end of town, and started the route to the glacier access. The landscape here was like none other I've seen before. The river, presumably some run off from the glacier, was the most incredible blue, complemented by the grey rocky ground around it, with red rocks scattered about for some contrast.     ... enough to be able to feed themselves, then put them on a predator-free island for a few months until they're big enough to fight off stoats, then reintroduce them to their natural (stoat infested) habitat. A lot of work, but it's very effective at increasing the kiwi numbers!     ... in their original placement were protected by tall fencing. Many people had marked all over the rock probably before the barrier fence was placed (sad), but it was nice to see the etchings that were there and the helpful signs that showed what the drawing was supposed to look like.
