I have included a helihike excursion on the Franz Josef Glacier. This is an amazing trip and the helicopter will take you to places that cannot be reached by foot.

From Wanaka you will drive through the scenic Haast Pass to Franz Josef Glacier. This is a challenging drive but also very picturesque.

... pulled up. They had nothing to do with the hens but had spent all day coming from Invercargill. We wished we could stay to see what happened!
We took the long road to Queenstown which took us through gold mining country as well as the stoned fruit capital of NZ and the Otago wine growing district where the mostly grow Pinot Noir.
So we spent 10 hours driving a 5 hour journey and really enjoyed it!
At the end of a long day Owen and Oscar Skyped us ...

... Car Park and went for walks. First we walked to up Sentinel Rock for views of Franz Josef Glacier and then to the terminal face of the glacier or as close as you can get these days.

Three or four years ago, it was possible to take a guided walk on the glacier basically from the car park. Since 2009 the glacier has been in a rapid retreat phase and has receded a long way as well as losing some of its depth at ...

Up Up And Awesome

... it to say we all had a huge grin on our faces and all we could say was WOW WOW WOW ! We landed on the snow at the top and as we put our foot down we sank about 6 inches into it. It was that virginal snow totally smooth and white white white . I took my sunglasses off for a pic but had to put them back on immediately it was so bright. We basically turned into big kids the moment we landed and egged on by Jan who said should we? should we? We did !! Snow angels ...
