We feel like visiting dignitaries

My dear sister April invited us to join her at the Calistoga Ranch. Even with threatening rain we hit the road and drive to through the beautiful wine country. St. Helena was decked out in Christmas decorations and was filled with people with shopping. Then we turn up the road to the ranch and encounter nature in all its glory. A turkey vulture enjoying his ...

All my bags are packed, I'm ready to go...

Well... Tonight is our last night at "the compound". I have to say.. I'm ready to get the hell out of here. Rob is still going to be working for a couple more days so we're heading over to my friend Claire's to stay until Wednesday.

Living here at the compound has really been amazing. And even though I'm definitley ready to get moving I'm pretty damn sad ...

... nay as well has have access to library purchases. Splurges happened.
Then we headed up Diamond Mountain. We swung into a winery called Reverie that we hadn't heard of but Jamie from Faille recommended. Probably the best tasting I've ever done. We tasted 5 or 6 different wines, all in a different location on the property. 1st in the outdoor tank area, 2nd in the winecave, 3rd and 4th in a perfect circle of redwoods, and 5th and 6th ...

Use your loaf!

... died out and I was able to appreciate the wine country in the morning mist – but not for long as a I was soon climbing the hills up the Sugar Loaf Ridge state park. Completing my honours system parking ticket I spent and age putting on my boots and scoping out the hill; to be honest I was not sure I was going to get to the top and was already scoping out some side routes. This was until another pair of walkers arrived. A couple who if they were not ...

Putting the fun into Fun-Bus!

... as far from the factory winery as you could imagine. We even met the children and the pets and some of the fellas got molested by the goats. Really nice way to finish off the day – the visit that is, not the molestation!

And here I am ready to crash at 9.30 as tomorrow I am heading up a small mountain (2850ft) – well I will try and see how far I get.

Wineries, Breweries, and Hills Oh My!

... are $10 each (we had coupon from their website for a 2fer1) and you get like 8 wines white to red. Talk em up and they give you the reserves which are extra special. Now I know what you are thinking, but they are little tastes and frankly some of them I didn't care for and dumped them out (Marshall drank it all because well you know ..he is a man). So we ended up buying a couple bottles of their Merlot which we like as a rule.

Leaving Cali

... t seem to be working great. I may have to post this later. We have a place to stay in Wellington for the first month. A lady, who is a classical musician, is going on a tour of the US & wanted to rent her place out for a few weeks. It's nice for us because it's close to the city in one of the neighborhoods we're contemplating living in. So we have a month to ...

Back Home

So this entry is really for me. I want to jot down some thoughts for my last few days, as they were definitely some of the most eventful. My trip to Guatemala was amazing. I met some great people and definitely some friends plan to keep in touch with. My family was quirky, but really friendly and fun. My teacher Gustavo was definitely a little sketch, but I definitely learned from him and he made me laugh. I had another teacher the last few afternoons named ...

... and found a good little cheap buffet restaurant which was yep you guessed it - Eat all you can!! (Can you see a bit of a trend forming here!!) Saturday 23rd August Today was another gorgeous day so we decided to walk to The Golden Gate Bridge. We walked through downtown amongst skyscrapers, plush shops and chic boutiques. Then you get to the busy Pier area with all its shops and toursit attractions and all the local fisherman busy unloading the days load and people preparing ...
