Kortrijk
Kortrijk, otherwise known as Coutrai, a lovely old city found along the Lys in western Flanders.
It is a facinating town rich in history and lore.
"According to archaeological discoveries, people were already living around 1500 B.C. where Kortrijk stands today. But there was no real colony before Roman times.
First century A.D.: the Gallo-Roman colony called Caroticum came to the light. It was settled on the borders of the Lys river ...
From "Flander's fields" to Westvleteren
... Johanes appeared and was kind enough to offer me a place to sleep. They gave me shelter, water, food, and a place to meditate. He was hard-working and very busy, but Father Johanes still made time to talk with me. The monastery is beautiful and meticulously maintained. I consider myself lucky to have met these gracious men, and I appreciate all that they do. I went to a nice catholic mass on Sunday held by the monks and embarked shortly ...

Everyone is genuinely happy and enjoying ...

Our trip to the In Flanders Fields museum was short lived as it is undergoing renovation until July. Damnit. Typical. We did however pick up a leaflet for another museum in a local town called the Paschendale ...
"In 80 yds, Turn Right!!"
... NOoooooooooooooooooooooo!", "Yes, that was the turning" Kate responded.
I could have quite happily played the Benny Hill theme tune throughout this. I went beyond anger to somewhere between disbelief and insanity and Kate had lost the plot altogether. It got to the point where it was like remembering a route through a maze or dance steps.Turn right, round the roundabout and keep to the right, give way to the right, try not to hit cyclist etc etc. We nearly hit ...
