    ... a beautiful forest on a lakeside. Had ramen noodles and ham salad sandwiches for dinner. Dreaming of last night's gumbo :-) I can hear all of the frogs and insects which is like music to my ears after the hustle and bustle of traffic. Camp site is set up differently here, appeared nicer with a place that seems clearer and less earthy for tent set-up, but then discovered that the bathrooms were out of order, so had to walk 10 mins to get to the next one. ...

    ... way north. The influence is evident in some of the buildings with wrought iron railings on the balconies. We stopped in at a restaurant which served sandwiches on cornbread and had a piece of pie. We then visited the Jefferson General Store which reminded us of Gruene. In fact the whole town was kind of like Gruene, quaint. We walked down the main street and noticed a statue to the Confederacy ...

    Well, I-10 and I-12 are in no better shape than last trips. It's like riding a roller coaster for 2 hours. Luckily I-49 was much better. We took I-49 North to line up with Hwy 380 in Texas. This is a small 2 lane highway to nowhere. Roswell, The Very Large Array, Valley of the Fires and the Painted Desert are accessible from this road.

    ... the time I hit the outskirts of Shreveport... nothing. There is always something, but nothing has yet come to mind. Oh, well. The goal is Meridian, MS by suppertime, which should be an easy drive, since we left at 1:30 PM.
