Today brings our North Island Tour to an end. It has been spectacular and informative. I thought I knew a fair bit about New Zealand and its history but to be honest I was quite ignorant of its history and culture. They are proud of it and rightly so.

Tomorrow we fly to Nelson and start the South Island tour. Just have to work out how we can pack the bits and pieces purchased along the way and stay within the weight ...

We drive to the east coast now, the area is called Hawkes Bay and it is known for wine so you can guess why we're here. We stay in Napier, which is a nice little seaside town that was destroyed in 1931 by an earthquake and so all the buildings are art deco style as most were rebuilt in 1933.
