Another early start - these are getting hard to take.

A beautiful drive through Franconia Notch and along the Kancamagus Highway criss-crossing the Connecticut River. Our lunch stop was in Hanover, the home of Dartmouth College, one of eight prestigious Ivy League institutions. Bruce and I watched a guy make our milkshake to have with lunch, he must have put a litre of ice-cream in each. We could hardly drink them through the straw.

... Factory. It was so interesting to go through the whole process of how each portion of the rod is fabricated and assembled. The entire process takes place in this one manufacturing plant. It was so encouraging to see a domestic manufacturing plant that has been able to keep all parts of its assembly in house. From the Bennington Monument, we did a little bit of souvenir shopping at a gorgeous little shop and then after Cath did a bit of an illegal turn we headed down the road to some covered bridges. These bridges reminded us so much of the Bridges of Madison County. So much so I was waiting for Clint Eastwood to come and sweep me off my feet!

For lunch we dropped into Easy Over's in Cuttingsville for tasty toasted sandwiches then off to the famous Pearce's Store. This is the local general store where you'll find Lavinia, one of the colourful local personalities who welcomed us warmly. As a memento of our visit Scott purchased a Pearce's Store t-shirt to show off back home.
