Another sunny day, the weather has been kind to us, and we have enjoyed mild days with fine weather. Today we leave the Isle of Skye heading back towards Edinburgh where we will spend a couple of days before leaving for Norway. Having missed the last tour of the Eilean Donan Castle on our way to the Isle of Skye we decided to stop for the tour this morning before heading off along the coastal road ...

Today was spent traveling through the beautiful highland scenery towards Inverness. Our body clock saw us awake at 4:00am, giving up on further sleep we set off in the dark, crossing the Forth bridge with the intention of stopping for breakfast at Perth. Arriving at Perth it was too early for anyone to be open. We were looking forward to a day of taking in the scenery and perhaps a walk or two at different destinations, however that was not to be as it rained for most of the day. ...

Walked along the sea front to the small town of Stonehaven and looked at the harbour and the sea. Windy but dry and sunny at times. We were so lucky to have dry weather. After coffee, walked back and drove north again. Went in search of Roman ruins at Garrison Hill but could not see them, only identify where they should have been. Drove towards Aberdeen. Beautiful country up here, even in winter. ...

... views were stunning but I'm not sure that the photos do them justice. We could see the village of Golspie at the base of the hill as well as the village of Dornoch, the one we're staying in, which is about 16km away. Even though it was quite a cloudy day which we thought would be ideal for walking, we were surprised how humid it was.... perfect weather for the infamous midges, which we met head on. ...

... friendly, they all seemed very focused and serious, so we left them to it and headed back home for some lunch. We decided to head into the town and check out the local museum. We were hoping to find some information on the early train system, as Lauren's Granny had informed us that her grandfather was in fact the driver. Unfortunately the museum was closed, but we walked along the road to find the old station where the train ran into Dornoch. It's now a derelict building ...
