Sunday - We left the luxurious B & B in Distington after a delicious breakfast and headed for Scotland. Again, we travelled on the motorway most of the time due to the distance we needed to cover. Our first stop was to see Carlisle Castle and museum. A modest castle, which has been rebuilt and modified over the centuries. We didn't stop in Glasgow, but still got caught in it's traffic as we followed the ring roads. There were ...

Continuing around the Firth Coastal Route, we headed to Edinburgh over the Forth Rd bridge. It was a Sunday again so no parking restrictions. We drove past Ravelstone Dykes, the road ...

... views were stunning but I'm not sure that the photos do them justice. We could see the village of Golspie at the base of the hill as well as the village of Dornoch, the one we're staying in, which is about 16km away. Even though it was quite a cloudy day which we thought would be ideal for walking, we were surprised how humid it was.... perfect weather for the infamous midges, which we met head on. ...

... friendly, they all seemed very focused and serious, so we left them to it and headed back home for some lunch. We decided to head into the town and check out the local museum. We were hoping to find some information on the early train system, as Lauren's Granny had informed us that her grandfather was in fact the driver. Unfortunately the museum was closed, but we walked along the road to find the old station where the train ran into Dornoch. It's now a derelict building ...
