    A great first day of my trip! Wanted to go straight to Virginia on my first day, and made it.
    A beautiful ride through the Appalachian mountains.

    ... telescope to radio interference of any kind. Because of that, there is a ban on the use of all sorts of things -- including digital cameras, anywhere near the telescopes AND a complete ban on cell phone use -- and towers -- in the whole valley! Thus no cell phone service! I don't feel so bad now that I know it's for a good reason!

    ... br> We couldn't see the train, but we could still hear it, and thought it was coming our way. Then the sounds got fainter and then stopped. Then we heard a whistle and more train sounds, so we waited, but they stopped again. We decided to wait five more minutes, and our patience paid off. The train eventually came around the bend, and we got some more pictures.
