Off to Maine

... from the Camden/Rockport area that moved back. It was so great to see many of them.

We drove up the Coast Saturday. The trees were just starting to change color a little. We hopped on Highway 1 about two hours South of Camden. This area reminds me so much of my home in Lake Country, MN. Touristy, yet unpretentious, lots of trees and water. We HAD to stop for a lobster lunch at some chowderhouse in a place that might have been called Wells, Maine. Doug gave me an ...

Day 29: Home Soil Produces Euphoria!

Today we travelled across our fourth Canadian Province, New Brunswick, on our way back to Maine. Each Province is very distinct from the other provinces. Much of Nova Scotia resembles Maine, especially along the coasts. Newfoundland is much more remote and isolated and less developed having lost its two primary sources of income from fishing and timber. All of the Canadian Maritimes have rich old histories ...

Traveling thought Maine and New Hampshire US

The Westy has decided it needs attention and rest, so we are heading to Montreal. Ben at Ben's Place will give it his best care and attention.
The drive through Maine and New Hampshire is again, giving us a new sense of the vastness of America and an appreciation for it's beauty.

Camden...a Definite!

... live on the boat and just enjoy each day to the fullest. What an inspiration!

After Camden, we headed south and drove through Bath and a couple of smaller towns. We saw the shipyards of Bath from a distance, but tours were not available. We found a small town...very small...that had a great restaurant! We ate on the balcony outside...overlooking the river AND the railroad tracks! LOL The ...

Low key Camden

... they found him so insufferable!

Further back up the highway we stopped into another potter's studio. It was interesting but otherwise unremarkable. You do find characters when you go off the beaten path and in a place like this, you would expect it to be the potter. Not here. As we pulled up we saw a fellow near the studio dressed all in black. He ducked in out of site as we got closer...hmmm, the potter, perhaps ...

We LOVE Camden!

... shallow baking dishes. Stephne got her ball of clay centered -- Dennis cranked out three flawless baking dishes. The winner and still champion, Dennis "Iron Potter" Rackliffe!

It was an awesome start to the day and a perfect way to say good-bye to Blue Hill. We picked out a color style and we're planning to order some pieces when we get home. We're also looking forward to the original creation that Stephne ...

Bar Harbor and Acadia

... while ago, we could hear the howling of what sounded like a fairly large pack of wolves in the distance. Just the sound of the Maine woods in summer, I guess.

Tomorrow we're going to find a pottery studio that is quite renowned in these parts and then we're driving back south to stay in Camden for a few days. The relaxation is well-ensconced in me now (although the pesky head/chest cold is still lingering...).

Stonington and Blue Hill

... out their economy and take advantage of the growing interest among travelers in coastal Maine. It really was like being inside of a postcard. We lounged over a couple of lattes and then wandered around the town a bit.

We decided to take a cruise on the Penobscot Bay...through the archipelago that was a one time haunt to some of the most notorious pirates of the late 17th and early 18th centuries. The boat that we went out on is actually the mail boat that ...

All this and wi-fi, too!

... American. We've had that feeling in Massachusetts and elsewhere in New England but it feels especially strong in Maine. I think that's because it is so relaxed and natural here...a little less contrived for the most part. Blue Hill, for example, has American flags hanging from every light post in the town. We see that at home but only when it is the 4th of July or some other patriotic holiday. And it's not they're 'flag-waving zealots ...

i have just spent my first evening at camp and it is amazing! but i will start at the beginning, I left Glasgow 2 days ago to a very tearful family and then took a flight to heathrow with my friend christopher who is going to the same camp as me. The flight was really short, which was good. We then got a bus over to terminal 3 in Heathrow, where we met Sara, Tom and Claire who were all also goin to our camp. The next flight was to ...
