Belgian Battlefields
Monday Dec 3 Another day in and about the battlefields of Belgium. Weather was generally poor - at times the car warned it was 3° and to be aware of 'black ice'. There was mizzle, drizzle or light rain all day. Not much fun for getting in and out of the car as we completed our battlefield car tour begun yesterday. Mosquitoes on the attack
... what we were expecting is tomorrow, today’s events start this evening! Oh well, we might have to stay another night! Boats have arrived and we were asked to move up close to the one in front, and now there is one close behind us, so it will be difficult to get out of here even if we want to especially as there is a flow to this river.

Cycling from Kortrijk to Deinze
The oiriginal plan was to cycle to Gent.
However, I got distracted with the lovely countryside. After passing through Deinze, I found some interesting side roads that led past lovely houses, farms and small villages.
After cycling for some time, through these small roads, I chose to return to Deinze to have lunch. I bought some fresh bread, cheese and a beer and sat by the Lys for lunch. A perfect lunch on a perfect day.

A Fantastic Beer Day in Western Belgium

We leave there and stop in a neighboring city for lunch at Het Smulhuis in Gullegem BE. This is a busy little bakery on the main drag that specializes in sandwiches. We enjoy a freshly baked French bread sandwich filled with sliced meats and vegetables including julienned carrots. Unusual but extremely delicious.

Chocolate, Beer and Fries, oh my!
Brugge may be a fairy tale city, but the thing they don't tell you is that the whole place smells like french fries! The Flemish like to fry everything from meat to fries to waffles...twice.
