Paihia, North Island, New Zealand shimmy08... and brought peace to land when his parents were arguing (that is the cliff notes version). The forest is very tropical with its fern and palm trees. you's think you're in hawaii or thailand. Amanda again: So instead of relaying exactly what we did every day and where we went (some days it wasn't much!) I thought I'd offer some observations about NZ so far. Today's observation: Birds. Some of you may know that there were originally no mammals on NZ ...
Kerikeri, North Island, New Zealand cheesenutKerikeri-Paihia (again) Distance - 27.35km, Average speed 19.23km/hr, number of cheese sandwich's stopped for 1. * I left Kerikeri, even though I do think work might have been genuinely going to start tomorrow but like all my idea's 'stopping to pick fruit' was brilliant but I'm over it, I'm a very fickle person (as some of you know well). * I'm back in Paihia (97km just seemed a bit ...
Paihia, North Island, New Zealand theroad2... a supposed mechanical engineer he sure knew how to get every repair he did to the thing just a little bit wrong. Like install the wrong master and slave cylinders on the clutch. Bravo university education...bravo. Honkey Mofo #5- Old Slow Hand Rick. Rick was my boss at the construction site. A mumbly old man with no ability to communicate with employees. At all. You found out you did something wrong through gossip. Not a construction site but a girls club. Also the slowest ...
Kerikeri, New Zealand gunslinger22... know a fellow from London England. He's been travelling for a while and has stayed in New Zealand for five years, two of which have been on the North Island. He has stayed here in Paihia for two months and is planning to get a sky diving degree. I call him the adventure seeker, but he came from being a math teacher so I guess the numbers got to him. After breakfast and the usually morning rituals we decided to go check on the grants to see if Grandpa was able ...
Paihia, North Island, New Zealand minijexter... We've met lots of nice German boys, gone to a few beaches, had supper with a local, got first job jitters out of the way, and became more familiar with driving on the "wrong" side of the road. I really hope that all the other places we go have much more to do though. It's quite easy to get bored here if you don't have a job or people to hang out with. ONWARD AND UPWARD!!
Kerikeri, New Zealand nicki_gramlich... haste. My construction job was good. Once I got over the whole "YOUR A BACKPACKER YOU MUST BE A MORON" attitude i settled down into a monotony of simplistic irresponsibility. Oil the wood, wipe the wood off. Sand the wood too. Make it pretty. Carpenteria. Gulf of Carpenteria...beautiful place our pearl boat in Aussie almost went...even writing about my construction work my mind wanders. The saving grace of this job was the view. A long slowly widening valley ...
Kerikeri, New Zealand gunslinger22... and had a wonderful time being trailed and challenged by these amazingly brash little birds called fantails. It was as if they themselves were little faeries playing tag and hide and seek with us as we wandered through their domain. The Magnificent Kauri Trees Kauri are among the world's mightiest trees, growing to more than 50 metres tall, with trunk girths of up to 16 metres. They covered much of the top half of the North Island when the first ...
Auckland, New Zealand girijagriffin... here for 3 nights though I don't want to leave. The oldies have gone off to see the Treaty House this morning but I wasn't at all well last night so just chilling out this morning. I think I'm getting my just deserts for gloating so much over having no jet-lag. This afternoon we are hoping to head out onto the water to spot some Dolphins for dinner (only joking!). Mmmm Dolphin n Chips :o)
