From Kadoka we travelled to De Smet SD
via the Corn Palace in Mitchell. This is an interesting place. Every
year the outside is redone in corn murals. The inside has murals that
remain the same although they replensish them every ten years or so
when the corn starts to go bad. It's a little bizarre and quirky.
Most of the year it is a venue used for basketbal games, concerts,
school events ...
... While we were in there Pa told a Melvis Petermeyer, it was so cozy and fun. The actual rain only lasted 15 mins but the lightning lasted for about 3 1/2 hours. Our neighbors even offered to let us stay in their "house" but we were dry. (They were very nice). The fire lasted through all of this, so we were able to go sit by it again. Clare had a pony ride for her birthday which made her feel pretty special after not being able to go horseback riding.
