... dressed of course...) I managed to get some sleep but did miss my stop as my alarm clock malfunctioned, but that was the only mishap, and it was nothing that an hour's bus journey back down south (at 6.30am, groan) couldn't fix :-) While waiting for the bus with a random guy who had also missed his stop I did have the pleasure of seeing a random cow taking a sunrise wander through town on its own, only to be harassed by a pack of stray dogs. India's great. :-)

... mich jedoch mit einem freundlichen "merry christmas", das ich ebenso freundlich erwiderte. ich denke er hat meinen stein nicht gesehen oder wer weiss was er als waffe gegen die hunde am mann hatte. hab mich etwas verlaufen - ok, etwas mehr - ich glaub ich hab fast eine stunde zum hotel gebraucht und war sehr froh dort meinen granitstein ungebraucht fallen zu lassen. der nachtportier war noch etwas vorsichtig doch mein "merry christmas" und das zeigen des zimmerschluessels ebnete mir ...

We ummed and arhed about where to go next. Our energy was still a bit low after being ill and we both really wanted to get somewhere nice, familiar and where we know people, so we booked a taxi to take us all the way from Madurai to Kochi! I know a taxi is extravagant but the trains were full for days ahead and the only other option was a night bus, which was not very appealing. Taxi it is then, brilliant. ...
Waterfalls and the beach

We decided to go to the Four Seasons Hotel (not the one you're thinking of!) and get a takeaway for dinner. Pizza's not quite the same as Domino's but a night off from rice was such a relief. The Bachelor was gripping as ever and even better with a G&T.
We were picked up at 9 Saturday morning by Johnson (everybody's favourite taxi driver) and driven to Athirapally waterfalls. Quite the drive (about 3 hours) ...
