... two and a half miles to the Gardens, which took us through some very poor and run down suburbs and then very leafy and up market ones. We hit Midtown and walked, skipped, ran and strolled through Piedmont Park. The kids found a playground which they loved and then complained about being hot.

... amazed by the competence, or lack of, of the general population. Today was no exception. A few near misses and a bump (none involving us thank goodness) and a huge number of semis, as usual. ... Bobby Thomson who was born inGlasgow. He was famous for hitting what the Americans know as "the shot heard round the world", which was a 3 run home run to win the championship for NY at the end of a game. It's actually very famous.. Anyway he was traded by the NY team to the Braves and played three seasons from 1953.

Tired, and still breathing, I headed home and when I switched on the telly they were re running the game.....
