Sunny Switzerland - a Hikers Paradise

... br> The next day we took off north through the notorious Splugenpass...pretty views but I'm glad I wasn't driving!
Stopped to hike down the gorge at Viamala which has been carved out by the Rhein River. The next stop was Ruinaulta, where the Rhein flows below white carved cliffs. Our destination for the next two nights is another refugio, Alpenrosli, at St. Antonien. Christoph met up with us and his sister and family came the next day.

Next stop the Nebelhorn in the Allgäu Alps

The next (crazy!) idea I had was to tackle the Nebelhorn - http://www.das-hoechste.de/en/summer/mo untains/nebelhorn/ which is just a four hour drive away in the Allgäu. The point of this madness was that from the bottom (815m) to the top (2224m) is around the same climb as I will do in Nepal (up to 1420m!). This was definitely the most difficult walking I've done so far. It was so steep at times with a variety of terrains from walking on tarmac roads ...

... We found a lovely little bench surrounded by electrical wires to keep the cows in. It was fun but we had to think about the hot wire at all times.

We then stopped at the little village of Appenzell. We went to the church, but there really wasn't much to see here. So we got back to the car and drove to town of Rankweil. Our hotel tonight is right on the highway so we'll see how sleep goes. The room however is very ...

    Wonderful Wildspitze

Moved on this morning, up the Pitztal valley, just south
of Imst. Went up to the Pitztal glacier, taking the Glacier Express(tunnel
train) followed Tyrol’s highest cable car to the restaurant at 3,440m, near the
top of the Wildspitze (3,774m). Perfect weather for a day in the snow – blue
    skies and no wind.

Staying near Jerzens tonight. Had a great evening meal at
    the campsite restaurant ...

    Wednesday 27 August

Odd jobs (laundry) in the morning, together with a battle
to use the site internet – and failed miserably due to site router problems.

After lunch, we walked into Imst. Found the local tourist
office to be next to useless and incapable of giving any advice regards ...
