So today was an example of how wonderful my husband Craig really is. Many years ago in 1983 when we Eurailed our way around Europe our train stopped at a pretty place called Zell am See in Austria. We were going to Salzburg and Craig said at the time – let's go back and have a look at this town one day. So it was on his bucket list. ... t nearly as big, but the setting was much more spectacular with the lake and mountains providing a breathtaking backdrop.
For dinner we went to the Crazy Daisy, where we sat outside with blankets and heat lamps. I had the Wiener Schnitzel, which was excellent. We spent the rest of the evening enjoying the wonderful Steinbock Apartment, as it was our last night there.

(The High Alpine Road with Mountains and Glaciers)
Today we drove the Grossglockner high alpine road, which goes through the Hohe Tauern national park. The road is named for the Grossglockner mountain, the highest in Austria at 3798 meters. The road is 48 km long with 36 hairpin turns, and ascends up and over a pass in the Alps called the Hochtor (high gate) at 2504 km. The Hochtor is also the border between the Austrian states of Salzburg and Carinthia.
