    We awoke fairly early and shared an omelette and English muffin at the hotel restaurant. The eggs were We left Coquitlam to head to Twassen ferry terminal and took the 11 a.m. Ferry to Vancouver Island. As always the ferry ride is beautiful but cold out on the decks. Fairly quiet, too. We strolled into the sunken garden created out of the old quarry by Jenny Butchart about 80 years ago, then past the totem poles and children's carousel to the Japanese Garden where they now offer a 45 minute boat tour of the bay.     - Mt. Douglas: (Shelbourne St) After a sweaty hike up the mountain we reached the top. The view is incredible. The first time i went myself and 6 friends just sat at the viewpoint for a good hour or so just looking out at the mountain ranges of America and Canada. You can see Seattle, Washington and parts of Victoria from the top. Definitely worth seeing. It's beautiful. I did this hike a number of times and the view never ceased to amaze ...

    ... we do have to walk a ways, but it is all on slopped ramps and fairly manageable . . . we land in a booth . . . and have a place to park the bags . . . time to look around. The café was closed, but opened soon after getting seated. The ferry makes three crossings a day . . . and does a brisk business.
