... There is a real spirit to the islands. I am so impressed by the creativity and integrity of the people who live there. There is a concern for their neighbors and the desire to work the land in a meaningful way.

I'm leaving the islands with my homework: study the natives that populated the islands, reading about the 'Pig’ War, learning more about the ...

I have lived in Oregon for over two decades and have never visited the San Juan Islands. It's a part of Washington I just hadn’t explored, until now. ... as Britain is so favoured for it's Fish & Chips, I was rather skeptical that the dish would be any better here. However, I truly admit to being wrong - Barb's is obviously the place (or should that be plaice?! <groan!>) to go...I'm just not sure they'll deliver overseas! We munched our freshly caught & cooked goodies, watching the sun set over the harbor - a perfect way to spend our first night on ...

    Kayaking with Orcas

The last three days I've been kayaking and camping with Outdoor Odyssey. I'm exhausted but had a wonderful time. Kayaking is an excellent way to see wild life. We saw deer, eagles, starfish, jellyfish, porpoise, harbor seals, sea otters, and finally the best of all ORCAS! The guide (Nikken) provided excellent gourmet food and lots of patience with our group - which had varied levels of kayaking experience. Only draw back was the head cold and muscle strain I ...
