Left hotel Mt Vernon Il at 745! Good nitr sleep. Brrr temp 37! Try to get home?? We r 1 hr from st louis (600 mi to home from there). Driving thru IL AND IA! At 315PM turned onto 35 notth! Sign said Mpls 182 miles! Yipee!! Ipod says home appx 700pm! Thatd like 12 hr day ( but we habe ot stopped to eat-just snacks in truck) grrrr! OOPS 11/28/14 got a speed ticket in mail from this day thru Iowa! ...

... crossing the Cumberland River near where it joins the Ohio. Continued on highway 60 into Paducah then over the river back into Illinois and Metropolis where we found the statue of Superman and the statue of Noel Neill who played Lois Lane in the TV series of Superman.

From Metropolis we followed the river trail through small hamlets and towns that have been forgotten by time or affected by economics - Mound City, Urbandale, Future City and Cairo to where the Ohio ...

Some of them may do these jobs at very low pay because they are bored with retirement others because they have to but they are taking the low skilled jobs from the young unemployed. If Abbott gets his way, this will be how it will be in Aust. We have even seen elderly trolley people. It has been much more evident in Krogers than in other supermarkets.

Arrived early and got our pick of sites. We got this one right on the lake. At dusk, the family of skunks would come out to enjoy the fallen crab apples on the tree in our site. The sunsets were gorgeous! We met Puff the Purple Dragon on the beach! Loved the water tower.

Between the entertainment, occasional radio or podcasts, chatting more than we ever do otherwise, the long days of driving have mostly been quite an enjoyable marathon. It gets more difficult the closer we get to home, but all-n-all Harry has been very enjoyable listening. We can't thank Aunt Diane enough for the wonderful gift of wizards, dragons, good guys, bad guys and the indomitable Professor Albus Dumbledore.
