... a beautiful modern library expansion, and lecture
halls he teaches in with upholstered wide-chairs, audio-visual equipment, and
lighting that would have seemed like something out of sci-fi to me when I was
in either college or graduate school in the 1980s and early 1990s. There’s no
question that being a college student is a far more upscale experience in 2015

Had a perfect travel day yesterday. Actually got away early, 8:45, and had beautiful cold clear weather all day. It was only once we got close to Portland that we saw any snow at all and there it was only deep in the bush. But shortly after we stopped for the night the snow started. This morning our intention was to check out Portland. We wandered down to the 'old town' which wasn't really an old town but VERY like Port Adelaide! It was cold - about minus 7 - so we were going into many shops just to warm up! When I saw a cheese shop that had samples it was like a dream!! The cheese was all made in Vermont and was delicious. We got talking to the lady about how we'd been hoping to see snow . She suggested if we drive inland about ...

... however, I couldn't even stay in there for more than a minute without starting to gag. Therefore, I tried to save all of my bathroom trips for when we went into town.

Back to Portland ... cool town. We did lots of walking and it was still pretty brutally hot. We hit up the Portland Observatory, which offered great views of the city along with a guided tour, and then we went to the meadery - which was ...
