... but being the optimists that we are we pressed on. The roads in Greater Madawaska Township had not been touched (wonder where my tax dollars go), however once reaching the county line to Lanark they had the roads cleared and salted so we felt better, especially in the hills between home and Perth. Once at Perth the roads were fine all we had was on and off again snow ...

... show Emma some of the beautiful Finger Lakes landscape, especially the hills of vineyards. Unfortunately, the route we took up the east side of Cayuga Lake was devoid of vineyards except for one small patch. We may have ended up seeing another medium patch toward the end, but I was very disappointed. I am not sure Emma shared my disappointment, but I think the Finger Lakes are not as stunning in cool, rainy fall weather with the autumn leaves past their peak.

... of Cavern Cascade. Rim trails overlook the gorge. Our first outing allows us to explore this near-by venue which we think you will agree is a phantasmagorical journey through layers of rock forming an incredibly tall gorge carved out of slim layers of rock. There are round and heart-shaped basins of water polished smooth as glass and flowing from waterfall to a pool to a waterfall to pool (repeat).

... there The temperature has dropped and it was 3 degrees this morning but rising to 24 later on. Found a wonderful Boutique Brewery cum restaurant back in Corning for dinner and ended up sitting beside the owners, who were the parents of the wonderful drinks waiter who had been serving us. We became life long friends over those couple of hours! ...
