... To make Oriental in one long hop means navigating in the dark for the last couple of hours. That isn't much of a challenge as I know the Adams Creek and Oriental areas by heart. The longer we wait to get underway translates to an even later arrival. I opt to "go" as soon as Maggie gets back from the shower and start to ready the boat for departure. ... town we passed was 90% trailer park and mobile homes and the people were none too welcoming. We decided to just keep on driving right out of there. It ended up being our longest drive to date as we spent 8 hours on the road and got all the way to New Bern, North Carolina, right on the East Coast. It was nice to be back to the ocean but ...

... it was really humid! The ocean was nice and warm (unlike the chilly Pacific) and Maddie kept me busy making castles and wave jumping. Up, down, up, down….it made me think of the two little ones at home, who I miss terribly.

Shawn is not a fan of the ocean, so when we gave him the low down on our day, confirming no shark sightings, jellyfish stings or sunburns he was happy. I think the worst thing that did happen was a ...
