Seth- I love coming back to Penn Yan whenever I can. It really is and always will be home for me. I've been living in NYC for nearly a decade and still I get that 'going home' feeling every time I get into the region. Clean air, clear skies, and nice ...

It was a great 2nd day in the finger lakes! We started the morning by going to Watkins Glen State Park, which is right at the base of Seneca Lake. It was a beautiful hike along the waterfalls...we took the gorge trail north and then the Indian trail south. A very hot day, so a hike along the water in the shade was perfect! After the hike was done, we had a picnic lunch at ...

There is also an amusement park closeby where children can enjoy, and you also get to see a Big Golf Course, with people trying their shots.

Overall a nice place if you are passing by Elmira, or are visiting Watkins, to add to the places to visit. I doubt anyone would like to travel 4-5 hours to just visit this place.

After going through this path, we found some nice Bridges and took the route towards the Main Entrance. By this time it had started raining heavy, and we took shade in an area. An elderly pair of ladies who had put in their rain coats and were carrying stairs asked us what our plans ...

    ... hike I've ever done.

We decided to pass up the little spur trail off to the right near the beginning of the trail and hit that on the way back. We made it all the way to the end of the gorge trail at the top of the stairs of the Upper Entrance in 45 min and back to our starting point at the main entrance at 10 AM (with 80 pictures and movies on the camera).

Unless you want the exercise or need to use the bathroom, the only thing to see past the Mile Point is ...
