We got up at 7:00 this morning and left for the mountain before 8:00. We got up to Kalalau Lookout shortly after 8:30. On the way up we saw the Erckel's Francolin a grouse'like bird and life bird for us. It was along the highway and we saw seven of them altogether by the end of the day. When we got to Kalalau we were treated to a wonderful view of the NaPali Coast. We could see the last beach at the end of the 12 mile Kalalau ...

We were all up by 8:00, had breakfast, put on our hiking boots and headed up the mountain to the museum at Koke'e State Park. We hiked the nature trail, which was very short but didn't see any birds. It was already foggy and spitting rain. We went all the way to Pu'u a Kila Lookout hoping to hike the Pihea Trail to the Alaka'i Swamp Trail. This swamp comprises 8000 acres. It collects the rainwater that falls on Mount Wai'ale'ale and this water feeds most ...

We were up between 7:30 and 8 but Erin had already been up for over an hour. We had breakfast and Erin got packed. We headed for Lihue about 9:30. We stopped at the Russian Fort, Fort Elizabeth, but it was not much more than a bunch of rocks inundated with weeds and access to a black sand beach. We did see a Northern Mockingbird there which is an uncommon species on Kauai. We stopped at Costco so Erin could look for Macadamia nuts, but they didn't have what ...

When I looked at my phone last night before bed I had a message that the cruise was cancelled. I found out this morning that it is the weather along the Napali Coast. So I called the National Tropical Botanical Garden in Poipu. The only time they had open was for the Allerton Garden at 1:00. We decided to go earlier and left about 10:00. We drove to the Spouting Horn Park so Erin could see it. The waves were bigger than last week so ...

... I went to the office to print our tickets and could not. Finally did get the Hawaiian Air to Honolulu printed but then US Air would not acknowledge that so would not let me print the Honolulu to Phoenix ones. No amount of coaxing would let me even pull them up. Finally called US Air and after getting cut off 3 times and having to start over got through to some screechy sounding lady who could not speak proper English – impossible to understand her ...
