... sharks up here. There was a world famous surfer who got her arm bit off here years ago by a shark and she is now a contestant on the amazing race. The road in Kauai does not go all the way around the island. It stops about 10 minutes north of Princeville. Once the road stops, there is a day long hike that goes another 12 miles or so. We didn't have a whole day, so we just went back to Princeville and did some snorkeling. The snorkeling was a ...

We arrived at the Hanalei Bay Resort, checked in and took the hike up the three stories of stairs to find our rooms for the next week. ... Unfortunately the 85+ degree weather at the beach was replaced by 68 degree weather with wind and some rain. Neither Eric nor I had appropriate clothes. But luckily we had gear for Nate, which is all that really matters, right? Who cares if we're freezing in shorts and a t-shirt while Nate is bundled up in a sweater with a hood? :) At the second lookout, we noticed a hiking trail that many people were headed on, so we put on our hiking gear ...

... There's an inlet through the coral near the rocks, there the Zodiac rafts come through to drop people off. It looked as if some had been camping so I bet they'd hiked to Kalalau beach and then took a short cut back. There's some shallow coral but there's a sort of lagoon which has a pure sand bottom. You can walk out a hundred yards or so without going out of your depth. I just went in and floated around for a while before flaking out on the sand. It's quite a breezy spot so ...
