... only the first port, and we only had one day!! And it was soo amazing, until next time Hilo, I will be back :D Its 10:02 here now and out ship is headed to Honalulu, but we do'nt get to get off, we're just refueling and leaving...kinda unfortunate. But, it's beautiful out and I'm currently writing this, laying out side, in my bathingsuit, on the top deck! It was fun climbing over the lava, and we really did take our time and explore, but we eventually hit rainforest again, and made the climb out.

Back in the car, and up the goat trail to the highway, we continued down the Belt Road. The road crossed over several "gulches" - small gorges, or large gulleys, and occasionally you could see waterfalls when you looked up the gulch.

Here we find endangered plant species and the state tree of Hawaii that has leaves and cream-colored flowers that are like a pointsetta plant (they’re of the same family). The Park Service has a water cistern in the area and has placed hoses to bring water into this area to protect this vegetation – there has been a drought here.
