An exotic Christmas Eve

... case of a, well, emergency. We were also told that a clothing store in town was offering a huge sale because the lava flow was predicted to pas through the store. All this is crazy, right? I am still shaking my head.

We returned home tired and hungry. Paula, our AirBnB hostess sent down Christmas dinner for us, so we enjoyed a little feast, which was nice seeing that we were both so far away from our hometowns, families and loved ones. To all of you reading this, Merry Christmas!

... But again so worth it. After this we made our way to the rainbow falls we saw on the tour - pretty cool! We then went to coconut island a tiny island off the Hilo coast to have lunch! There were a lot of locals having family lunches too and jumping off a tower into the sea! I decided we should head to pahoa where the current flow is heading into and has only recently burnt a house down to the ground! Obviously we couldn't see much but we saw the pylons surrounded in earth ...

... not see another human..

Following this experience we climbed back up and joined humanity again go watch the central crater which in continuously erupting. You can see the red glow from 20 miles away where everybody gathers and wraps up warm at 13 thousand feet to watch the spectacle. Again another humbling experience watching the raw power of nature at work.

I would leave the blog there, but there is more. Nothing the next day so I'll skip that ...

This is of course not possible for someone who isn't a monk or a nun and who devotes their entire life to the path of liberation and enlightenment. ... word we heard was the young man was celebrating hiscountry's Christmas Eve (using the "Old Calendar") and about 2:30am had goneout for a smoke and never returned. Whenhe didn’t report to work, they realized he must have fallen overboard! Our ship traveled back north-eastward about 5hours to help in the search. They alsohad a cargo ship assisting.

The coast guard had relieved us of searching last night thenrecalled us again about 2 hours later ...
