      Spine tingling Ypres

From beautiful Brugge we drove south west to Ypres. Along the way we stopped at some of the war memorials to the fallen soldiers. All this area is part of Flanders. We stopped at the Tyne Cot cemetery. It is the biggest commonwealth memorial. It was quite surreal looking at the walls knowing every name on the wall represents a soldier whose body was never found or identified.

Through Wind and Rain for Frites

... through the wind and rain, huddled under our tiny umbrella, to the frites ("fries") stand we visited yesterday. We quickly placed two orders to go, hustled back to our B&B and smuggled in our goods, to be consumed while sitting on the bed. The crossing was quite smooth much to Serena's relief, of course I had to have my usual fat boy breakfast while she ate my toast, greedy i call that. Missey also survived and seemed none the worst for being left down in the car.
The drive to the camp-site Camping Klein Strand was nice and straight forward for the first journey just 78 miles. We pulled up at reception just a little before 12 noon, greeted with a ...

      The Bizarre R

A travel blog entry by silja on Aug 31, 2011

Our Eurostar ticket included 24 hours of free travel in Belgium and the Netherlands (sort of ... side note: Belgians who are fluent in English don't know the word "Dutch"), so we took the opportunity to spend a night in Ghent. We checked out the graffiti art, ate purple candies and chocolates. We then hung out with our couchsurfing host, cooking mussels, meeting a random ukulele player, and drinking interesting shots at a local ...
