... this place because it was rated high at TripAdvisor. It turned out to be a good choice. It was also good that I booked in advance. There were 5 people standing behind me as I checked in. When the desk clerk advised the first one that they had no vacancies, all of the others turned and walked out too. I heard one man tell his wife, "We're going to have a hard time finding a room here in a Taos tonight." Gee, what a surprise. It's Columbus Day ...

A motor boat came slowly toward us on the no wake lake, and the captain asked if we were looking for the Far Flung Adventures shuttle.

We told him no and paddled on, when at once we heard a frying sound coming from across the lake. What? What's that? Turned out to be rain! Beautiful sound, but strange.

... recent rain, but the roads were dry. Since it was rush hour, we did encounter some traffic, but it really wasn't that bad. Then the brakes went out on the car. Then came back on right away, when I pumped the brakes a couple of times, but it was scary. So we called Avis and asked to have the car replaced. We are now sitting in a Starbucks (where we arrived safely), waiting for another car.

Last couple of days in Santa Fe

... it was parked in Taos. How I dislike those people who think nothing of damaging your vehicle and then buzzing off. Hopefully karma catches up with them.

As it turned out, my insurance completely covered the damage – no excess to be paid. The insurance was pretty hefty - $36 per day – but it did save me a lot of headaches. However, it was annoying, as I was so careful with the vehicle.
