Historical Traveler Reviews Hacienda Las Barrancas Santa Fe

Incredible Hideaway!

from texas_6carters

My husband and I just returned home last night from a three night visit to Hacienda Las Barrancas. It was our first visit to the Santa Fe area and I stumbled across this B&B off the New Mexico visitor webpage. I decided on this place to celebrate our anniversary after reading trip advisor reviews and cost comparing some hotels downtown.

We stayed in the smallest room, Pinon ($125), and it was perfect. Not cramped at all; the website does not do it justice. Everything was very clean and the bed was cozy and comfortable. There are only four rooms in Hacienda. Except breakfast time, we felt as if we were the only people there. It's soooo quiet! Oh, and breakfast is a feast. Emily is a great cook and Tim keeps your coffee cup full. There is a little chalkboard with the gourmet menu on it. Be careful not to fill up on fruit and bread before the main course.

There is a long patio with chairs and tables to sit at in front, and little hidden places to linger at around the house. The hot tub is privately tucked up off a stone path behind the house (and is always on). The star view is incredible.

Everything about this place is fun and relaxed, but the hosts (Tim and Emily) are what entitles it to a return visit. They truly love what they do, and are incredibly hospitable. We enjoyed getting to know them, but never felt as though our privacy was infringed upon. They are a wealth of information for everything in the surrounding area (dinner, shopping, architecture, outdoors, spa, etc.) and have great recommendations. We are the kind of people who usually don't return to the same place twice, because there are so many places we want to see... but we will return here.

The drive is an easy 20min north of Santa Fe. Be sure to visit the towns to the west and northeast if you have time. Beautiful!

Complete bliss and relaxation!

We visited Sante Fe for the first time in April 2006. We were looking for an extra special experience as it was our 10-year anniversary. We saw some feedback on this Web site that didn't encourage staying in the Plaza as it was 'too touristy'..so we decided to break out and stay at a bed and breakfast away from the Plaza. We are SOOOO glad we did. First of all, the Plaza closes down WAY early (a little disappointing) and that combined with higher prices for what you end up with...not sure what the benefit of staying there is....

Anyway, we stayed with Emily and Tim for three nights and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We chose the Pajarito room partly because of the Kiva fireplace. The nights were still slightly cool so we ended using it for two of them. The room was spacious, very clean, cozy and the bed was very comfortable with nice linens... This is the room that another traveler referenced as the one off the kitchen. We absolutely didn't hear a thing...and I'm not a heavy sleeper. The room has an entrance off the back patio as well as one from the inside of the house. We thoroughly enjoyed the hillside hot tub with the champagne and chocolate-covered strawberries Tim & Emily surprised us with for our anniversary! We had an amazing view of the stars....very relaxing! The breakfasts were incredible and VERY filling! - we literally never had to eat lunch because we were so satisfied! There was always fruit, a pastry (Emily's awesome scones & muffins! - I need those recipes Emily - not that I could them justice! ;-)) ), a main dish, etc! As my husband says 'Emily throws down!'. Also, the refrigerator has every kind of drink you'd like to partake of during the day and there is a table set up in the dining area with tea, fresh-baked cookies, etc.

Emily and Tim have really thrown their hearts into their property. They want you to have the best time possible and are awesome hosts willing to help out with any needed planning. They have a ton of literature and information available onsite and made reservations for us to go horseback riding with Equine Adventures. We had an absolute blast. I think the gal's name was Deborah..she's willing to 'trailer up' the horses and take you to where they shot City Slickers! How cool is that! They also recommended a restaurant very close to the BNB called Gabriel's - awesome food. It was SO good we actually ate there two nights - not something we'd normally do on such a short trip. We also went to Bandelier National Park to the indian ruins and they packed us a snack and gave us some great advice on where to hike.

All in all, we couldn't have asked for a better experience. This was our first with a bed and breakfast and it definitely won't be our last. When we get back to Sante Fe, we'll definitely be back to see Emily and Tim!

Great Find!

from shytown

My wife and I truely enjoyed this B&B and thought it was a great find. We've been to Santa Fe before, and each time we stayed in the city, close to the the plaza. On our most recent trip, we wanted to stay outside the town, and get a different look and feel of the surrounding area. We settled on Hacienda Las Barrancas and were happy with our choice. The B&B is about a 20 minute drive north of Santa Fe, tucked in the foothills of Santa Fe County. Although we were a little hesitant to be that far away from Santa fe, we found that the drive into town to be very easy, and the location was very convenient to visit some surrounding attractions, including Bandelier National Park and the historic towns of Chimayo and Cordova.

My wife and I stayed in the Juniper room, which was very spacious. We had access to both the front and back porches and the hot tub was just a few yards away. We were given a tour of the entire house, as we were the only guests staying there at the time. All the rooms were simply decorated, with plenty of space. One room is located right off the kitchen which might get more traffic noise, though not sure.

Both Tim and Emily, the owners, were amazing hosts. They treated my wife and I like we were family and were quick with great suggestion for restaurant, local attractions, and hiking. My wife was pregnant at the time, and they even knew of a great hike that was more suited for my wife's capabilities. The breakfast was also excellent. Although Emily claims to have no formal training in the culinary arts, her menu joined local tastes of New Mexican cuisine and that of a traditional American breakfast - the double corn pancakes with toasted pinon nuts were delicious.

Oustanding Hosts, Food, Room & Location! A real gem of a place...

My wife and I just spent 3 wonderful nights here and were enthusiastic about writing our tripadvisor recommendation. Why? Because this was one of the best, if not the best, B&B we've ever stayed at (and we travel a lot). The hosts, Tim & Emily, were extremely nice and were exceptional hosts. They take the "our house" is "your house" concept to its full meaning. By our last day, we felt like we were at our house (or, at least, staying at the home of a fun aunt & uncle!!).

They helped us find lesser-known hiking trails that led to amazing outdoor scenes & un-excavated Native American sites & petroglyphs; provided great recommendations for less-expensive, but high quality restaurants; provided maps & great directions to various other tourists spots and art galleries in the vicinity; and, most of all, were a delight to sit back and talk to.

Food - Emily makes the most amazing breakfasts with such home made goodies as cranberry & ginger scones; challa french toast; blueberry & cornmeal pancakes; and a huge repetoire of omelletes -- she use to run a breakfast & lunch restaurant for 5 years and it really showed. On top of providing a huge breakfast, in the evening there were always fresh baked cookies (pecan, chocolate chip). Tim even made some of the best guacomole we've ever had. Coffee & tea were always available as were wine & beer. Once again, the kind and giving nature of the hosts were always on exhibit.

Rooms - We stayed in the room, Pajarito, and were really happy. It had a terrific kiva fireplace (which we used every night and Tim set up everyday when we were out), huge bathroom with painted tile and carved wood cabinets, and ultra-comfy king-sized bed. We also had a back porch to sit and look up at the many stars.

Grounds - Beautiful. About 20 minutes north of Santa Fe (and it is a very, very easy drive to downtown Santa Fe), set amidst rambling hills, badlands brush (very beautiful), and the desert - perfect. From the front door of the B&B, you can hike up a hill to watch an amazing sunset. The hot tub is also set on the side of a short hill and is a secluded place to watch the stars.

Location - One excellent hiking trail of Bandalier was only 10 minutes away; the other main section was 20 minutes. Los Alamos - 10/15 min.; Santa Fe - 20 min.; San Ildefonso Pueblo - 3 min., Valley Caldera - 30 min., Taos - 1 hour. I couldn't imagine staying in dowtown Santa Fe when this location was much more central to a wide area of different attractions.

Again, this was an excellent place to stay; we highly, highly recommend it!

You may see a star!

What an amazing place. The hot tub was hidden along a rock path that curved behind the hills of the property. The view (stars) was absolutely incredible!

Since I have some dietary restrictions, I was impressed how Hacienda Las Barrancas catered to my diet. The food was top notch and they went the extra mile for us. From restaurant recommendations to the music (cd's) they provided for our drive to Bandelier National Park, I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a truly amazing getaway!

A little slice of heaven

from 55DeltaBravo

My husband and I stayed at Hacienda Las Barrancas for Christmas week 2005, and could not have been happier with our choice. The property is lovely, the food is fabulous, and the innkeepers seemed like old friends from the first day we were there. Innkeepers Emily and Tim go far beyond the "bed" and "breakfast" requirements, with helpful suggestions about interesting day trips, loads of maps and brochures for things we might otherwise have missed, even suggestions for where gasoline might be cheaper. Although they make it look easy, I know they work hard to accommodate the varying interests of their guests. And did I mention, the food is fabulous!

Hospitality Supreme

Several months ago, my brother and I stayed at a B & B in Santa, Fe, NM named Hacienda Las Barrancas. We were a little apprehensive because it was the first B & B that either of us had ever stayed at.

We were greeted by the nicest "Kids"- Tim & Emily, I have met in a very long time. They were extremely proud of the beautiful work that they had done themselves remodeling their place which is now simply a peaceful and extremely clean place of traditional beauty. Their dedication shows in the rooms, the gardens and their genuine love of people.

I can't forget the breakfast because I still daydream about some one else making me whatever I have a taste for every day and knowing how to prepare it properly too. The portions are plentiful and there were always nutricious snakes left in the fridge to help ourselves during the day.

Since returning home, I have recommended Haceienda Las Barrancas to several friends, something I would not have done if I weren't completely confident that they would enjoy this place as much as my brother and I did.

A Great Santa Fe Getaway!

from anonymous

We thoroughly enjoyed staying at Hacienda Las Barrancas. The setting was a beautiful and huge southwestern home with ALL the charm, just outside of Santa Fe. The property had lovely trees and flowers with a huge yet private front yard surrounded by an adobe wall. There were various outdoor sitting areas to curl up with a book or stargaze. We could see the Milky Way! The food was incredible all the way around...selection, presentation and dee-liciousness. I had a lovely fruit cup and salmon & dill cream cheese omelet and my partner had banana-nut french toast. Truly a gourmet chef there for sure! We were into Santa Fe in no time at all, but enjoyed the quiet and semi-rural setting of the home. I only wish we could have stayed a few more days to hike nearby! Great place to getaway!

Exceptional Hospitality, Care, Food, Facility

from 101

We have just returned from an exceptional stay at Hacienda Las Barrancas, a bed a breakfast, a little north of Santa Fe. Our hosts Emily Chapman and Tim Bauman provided us with a warm welcome, peaceful stay, amazing breakfasts, home made cookies and breads every afternoon. Our room was spacious, comfortable, quiet with all the luxuries of a five star hotel. We hope to return and spend more time there in the future.
