... been turned into a pedestrian square with more cafes than you can shake a stick at. I suspect that the palace itself is not quite in original condition either, but it is still said to be one of the most imposing Roman ruins in existence. To be honest I found it a little anti-climactic, but I had just come from Dubrovnik which would be a hard act for anywhere to follow.

Sun, sea and Split
... become quite natural, even after only two weeks of intensive backpacking. This rhythm is quite different from the projects we have worked on, but still involves a great deal of helloes and goodbyes – we move on quicker and only catch glimpses of places through which we pass and the people who we meet. Perhaps, in Dubrovnik, we will be desperate to leave, or desperately cling to the place as long as we can. Will we bump into the American man again, or make a new friend with no name?

Last of Hvar
... most about this place is the many many cats and dogs that wander freely everywhere! All the dogs have collars on but seem to wander the streets freely all day long. I may have fed a few stray cats....and then cause our hostel balcony to be filled with about 10 cats in 5 minutes:)

Split, where there was a 24 hour bakery. Mmmm.
... gatecrashed their party. There we met 3 lads from Wolverhampton, 2 Australians, a couple of new zealander guys and I think another lone australian. We played some drinking games then went to a club in Split. Was a good night out. We woke up the next morning and went for a walk to the palace. It was very pretty; we went into the cellars, into the cathedral and some other places. We followed a bunch of oldies around as they were very informative ...
Sun and Fun in Hvar
... a nice scenic walk into town. The town of Hvar has a big square just off the harbour with lots of narrow streets leading to many shops and restaurants. We found a restaurant with a gorgeous garden patio to have our supper at. We ordered a big seafood platter for two and were a little bit disappointed with the results and the price ... at least the wine was good though. We then strolled back to our hotel for an early night.
