... his shoulders and put the beer in front of us and walked away. Could it be? A free 8.60 Euro worth of beer? No...5 minutes later another waitress came over looking for her money. She may have bitten our heads off it we were any slower paying her. Yikes. After a few minutes a group of three guys asked to sit at our table. There are huge picnic tables that can hold 10-12 people so the more, the merrier. So these guys sat across from us and said hello...and 7 ...
Munich, Bavaria, Germany unbound... is about the quick version on the night but then came the walk home. Bryan had to leave early to catch a flight to Australia, thanks Ed Mayadag for making Bryan have to leave for work during the best holiday of the year. Tom and his friends already left, basically leaving me alone at Oktoberfest. I am not fully sure about what I did but I remember bits and pieces. Pictures are helping. I first want to say thank you to Google Maps, it saved my life ...
Munich, Bavaria, Germany drunkendidier... of the church. Suspiciously my foot fitted the mark pretty well which Cesca was not suprised at! Back outside we went past the place where Hitler's Beer Hall Putsch (attempted revolution) was stopped in 1923 before heading into the English Gardens. We also passed the Royal Palace and the old military musuem which was destroyed during the war and has now been converted into a terrible modern government building using glass fused into the old brickwork. On the way out of the ...
Munich, Bavaria, Germany chris.cesca... through the village out to the children's ski field complete with small chairlift. Saw several kindergarten groups having ski lessons, complete with helmets. Walked back along the river. Saw fox prints in the snow. Had large morning tea, then Andrea drove us to the station where we caught the train to Munich. Big seven floor hostel. Bar, restaurant, internet, games room, kitchen, washing facilities etc. Went by train to the Olympic Stadium, where Mandy had great fun remembering what ...
Munich, Bavaria, Germany gregd999... and our small before ordering. A German small is an American extra-large when it comes to beer! That may have something to do with why I don't feel especially fabulous at the moment. Ah well ... it was tasty. Oh, and speaking of Hard Rock ... I have to go back to Berlin at some point, because I didn't get a pin from there. I currently have one from Paris, Amsterdam, and Munich. I thin kthe only other one I can get on this trip is Rome. It'll ...
Munich, Germany fyregirl... We went to one called 'Augustine' and the beer they make there you can only buy there, they don't sell it in shops. They are the biggest garden in the city area and seat 5000 people outside. Their beer comes in a big wooden barrel and to pour it they whack the cork out of the top and the beer pours out of the tap. We went to another one called Louenbräu and it was riddled with bullet holes from WWII. Apparently it was where Hitler made his first ...
Munich, Germany sozrox... unfit thereafter to partake in carnival rides. After a sobering cup of coffee and an unsobering second liter, a half meter brat seemed in order, after which a third liter seemed like a good idea. (This may seem like quite a bit to you, but do not pass judgment until you see the German men chugging one liter and ordering another shortly after, or the little German girls who drink four liters more easily than I ...
Munich, Germany jaredwall... statistics say that of the 200,000 (or more) prisoners having served time in Dachau, nearly 1/4 of them died. A visit to the memorial takes you beyond the statistics, showing you a small glimpse of how they lived, and how they died. Our hotel in Reising was very nice, the Dorint Novotel. This was the best place we stayed during the entire visit. Local restaurants there in Friesing center ...
München, Germany gustn... really beyond our control and she did not handle it all that gracefully. We finally got away from her and headed back to the main train station. I tried to get ahold of Mandy but she refused to leave the beer tents so we decided to move on. We flipped through our Lonely Planet guide in the train station and matched it up with the trains on the schedule, and decided on Bamberg as our next destination. Then we waited a long time for the train.
