... 4 nights is called the Laughing Kiwi, and it is adorable. I am staying in a 6 person room, called Matai. I love this, because my class in Wellington is called Matai! Also, the class next door to me is called Totara, and there is another room at the Laughing Kiwi that is called Totara. I have learned, I don't remember exactly how, that matai is a tree, and I passed a park today called Totara on my way to ...

Rebecca's Guide to Skydiving

... because your chute did indeed open and stopped you from plummeting to the ground below. Yay! The noise is gone and now you may converse with the man attached to your back. You may also remove your goggles as the speed at which you are moving is something akin to riding a bicycle, so you needn't worry about wind in your eyes.

Step 9: (Optional) Tandem guy takes the opportunity to manipulate the parachute and spin you around ...

Trekkies

... we opted to leave them off unless we hit some rough ground or went under a particularly thick bit of trees since the moon was out. Walking by moonlight through a forest on the side of a mountain while the ocean gently lapped pristine beaches below was an almost mystic experience, and the stars were amazing. It was the clearest I'd ever seen the Milky Way, and probably the most stars I have ever seen at once. We even saw several shooting stars throughout the ...

... here.

The next day our main objective was to hike to Harwood's Hole in the Abel Tasman National Park, which is the deepest vertical hole in the Southern hemisphere at 357 meters! That's really deep.
That's 1,071 feet - so for those of you who knew where we lived in Chicago, in The New York building, 50-some stories high - this HOLE was TWICE THAT!!! There were signs everywhere about not taking ...

My inner camper

... the night. I have to say, I've been quite lucky not having anyone bother me while I've been sleeping on the side of the road. When you think of all the freak shows you see in movies or on the news, it kinda makes you paranaoid. But my paranoia only lasted a while until I fell asleep. I spent the 14th walking around Motueka. It's such a small town, but it did have a few shops that held my attention for a few ...

Abel Tasman NP

... Takto jsme oddrkocali k mori, kde nas traktor zacouval do more. :-)

Abel Tasman Coast Track

... I say go for it. I set out from Marahau and started my way North the first night's hut at Anchorage. Here is a visual chronology of my day. The track has four sleeping huts in which bunks can be reserved. "Bunks" vary from a platform with seven pads to bunk bed style individual bunks. I opted for the sleeping huts since I didn't bring a tent. In ...

Being artists of course the town was given a brief to design a monument to honour Abel Tasman the dutch sailor who discovered New Zealand by landing in Golden Bay in 1647 and boy did they put their consolidated creative efforts into effect!! We spent a day hiking part of the ...
