Historical Traveler Reviews Greenbriar Country Inn & Suites Galena

    What a find!

    from

Greenbriar, a gem in the heart of Galena, is home to the perfect setting for a peaceful weekend. The lovely grounds and beautifully decorated rooms were so inviting and cozy. Bill and Barbara made our family feel at home. This was a great spot for our family weekend... grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins had space to visit together; yet we each had our own private rooms when we wanted a bit of quiet time. What a great location, too... just a short hike from shops and restaurants. The Greenbriar is perfect for a family getaway, girls' weekend, or couples. I am eager to visit again!

WOW! what a great place to stay

    from

We really enjoyed our weekend at the Greenbriar B&B. It was so charming and the staff was really friendly and very helpful in telling us where to go and what to see in Galena. It was our first trip to Galena but we will return- and when we do we will stay at the Greenbriar again.

Highly recomended!!! If you can get it request the room with the four poster bed- very romantic setup.

Hannah Room Best for One Person

    from

We recently stayed for two nights at the Greenbriar in the Hannah room.

Nicely appointed but very small (10' x 12' would be a generous guess).

Add to the 'tightness' the fact that the bathroom sink was in the bedroom (because the bathroom was very small) and it made for a tad more 'coziness' than was comfortable. The primary difficulty was finding any flat surface on which to unpack a bag (except for the bed, there was none). There were also two throw rugs on the floor which were very dirty and clearly had not been vacuumed or shaken in some time.

Did not make for a good first impression. The managers were very friendly and provided a nice "tour" upon checking in. Would recommend anyone considering the Hannah room be a single. With a queen bed and a sink in an already small room, two people moving about in this room was too much traffic.

    Full of Warmth and Charm

    from

We have stayed in the Greenbriar twice, and can't wait to get back in 2004. What a change from standard hotels and motels. This has all the individual touches of a bed and breakfast and yet all the pluses of a hotel as well. The rooms are like home, the setting is lovely and the personal touch of the people who run it, is second to none. It's a place where you are made to feel like a person, rather than a room number!

    Fabulous B&B

    from

I stayed at the Greenbriar really based on the previous reviews on this site. We got two rooms across from each other, teenage daughters in one, my husband and I in the other. The beds were great and the decor very pretty. Continental breakfast was great, fresh fruit, muffins, etc. Gourmet teas and coffee are always available. Guest have use of the refrigerator, example storing leftovers or wine, etc. We generally go to Galena in the Spring & Fall, usually stay at the Best Western or Chestnut Mountain. I will now be staying at the Greenbriar. Another positive point, we walked into town, no looking for a parking space as the Greenbriar is in town.

    A Great Get Away

    from

Our travel group of four couples decided to take a weekend road trip to Galena. We planned to stay for only one night not realizing that most B&Bs as well as Inns require a two night minimum. The Greenbriar was very accomodating and was willling to provide four rooms for a single evening. We were thrilled with the Inn as well as the innkeepers. The rooms were beautiful and exceptionally clean. We enjoyed the privace that this Inn allowed as well as off street parking and great proximity to the shopping area. We had a great time at the Greenbriar and enjoyed all of the extras that this Inn provided.

    Perfect bed and breakfast!

    from

This is a great place to stay in a great location for enjoying Galena.

The rooms were attractive and comfortable. The building we stayed in had a parlour, dining room, small kitchen and screen porch for people to use. All rooms were meticulously clean. The continental breakfast of fresh muffins, fruit and beverages is hand delivered to your room or the buildings kitchen whenever you call for it. The owners were pleasant and helpful without being intrusive.I liked it so much that my siblings and I bought a gift certificate for our parents to stay there for their anniversary. They loved it too!!!! All this for a very reasonable price. I would definitely stay here again.

    My favorite place!

    from

I stayed at the Inn on March 28-31. I loved my room, the decor, and especially the incredibly comfortable bed - which lured me into sleeping later than usual (this could be dangerous for those who really want to shop early.) I was particularily impressed with the hospitality of the innkeepers - both Bill and Barbara bent over backwards to provide me with information to make my stay more personalized and relaxing - although they were always available, they actually reside next door to the Inn which gave me the feeling of privacy I so appreciate. I usually veer away from bed & breakfasts because I feel like I'm staying in a stranger's house; I definitely did not get that feeling here. Although I don't get to Illinois often, I will definitely stay here any chance I get and will recommend your place to everyone I meet! Thanks for an enjoyable stay!

    Wonderful

    from

We were absolutely delighted by our room. High pillow top mattress is the way to go.We were impressed with the extras like plush calvin klein towels lace linens, in room goumet coffee, teas and a wonderful selection of gourmet hot chocolates. The fireplace & whirlpool were added enjoyment but the service including what was refered to as a personalized check in was outstanding. My wife was in heaven with all the pillows...pillows.....pillows. We were particularly impressed with the cleanliness and friendly staff, and the hand delivered breakfast basket to our door when we woke up was great. The Greenbriar Inn will definitely be our place to stay when we visit Galena. Talk about convenient,we parked our car in their lot and walked to everything all weekend.

Today was planned as a shorter travel day into Iowa so we could visit the “National Farm Toy Museum” in Dyserville. Kevin has talked about seeing ...

... to see. A lot of the stuff in this museum was related to Mark Twain and since we visited Hannibal last week, this was sort of redundant. Bob was less than thrilled to be there, but that could have something to do with the fact that as we were walking to the museum, we had to walk across a high bridge. (You see we had already parked the car and fed the meter, so we figured we could walk 0.2 miles.) They also had exhibits which included ...
