... Stew that was more like a creamy soup. I had a Rubens sandwich - corned beef, cheese and slaw. We then had a quick look around the shops. Lots of touristy stuff, clothing and galleries. We then found a cafe offering half price drinks. They also did a blueberry cobbler which I wanted to try as Maine is known for its wild blueberries. We sat there eating and drinking in the sun until it was time to get back on the bus. The final point of interest was a drive by of George and ...
Our flight to Boston was canceled due to the arrival of Hurricane Arthur, so we had to change plans now having us fly out of National. Our flight was packed, but we arrived in Boston, secured our minivan and were on the road to Maine by 10:45. After stopping at Dunkin Donuts for an authentic coffee and munchkins, the rain started as we drove thru Massachusetts and New Hampshire. We decided to stop ...
... up buying salad and some BBQ chicken, no muss, no fuss. The first might we decided to BBQ but quickly changed plans when we discovered the salad bar at Shaw's Supermarket on Scammon Street in Saco near Old Orchard Beach. It was more than a salad bar actually it had many types of goodies including fruit, eggs, cottage cheese etc. – enough for supper if we threw in the BBQ chicken (already BBQ’ed) that we found also at ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Green Heron Inn Kennebunkport
We never want to stay anywhere else but at the Green Heron Inn in Kennebunkport, Maine. The Inn Keepers are friendly and professional and treat you like you've been friends forever! The Inn is spotless, rooms are decorated beautifully and they are very comfortable. It is a very warm and welcoming place to be. The afternoon cookies and refreshments are always fresh, plentiful and always yummy! We've relaxed in the evening in the comfortable living room either reading a good book, chatting or watching a great video. Breakfasts each day have different items on them and they are prepared so creatively with the freshest of ingredients and there is lots to choose from. We don't know how they do it, but it is a culinary feast! The Inn Keepers even caterred to my lactose intolerance! The dining area is bright and cheery and we gaze out the windows at the lovely river watching the ducks and Herons visit and entertain us as we have breakfast. It is an easy walk to the shops, restaurants and the ocean is right across the street. What more could anyone want! Area hiking/walking trails are lovely too! Checking out is always a sad thing because we never want to leave. But with sincere hugs on our way out we know we'll alway be "coming home" to the Green Heron Inn to see our "good friends" soon!
My wife and I and our three kids stayed in the Shannon Cottage at the Green Heron Inn in Kennebunkport, and had the time of our lives for five perfectly wonderful days. The cottage was made for us- a double and single bed upstairs for our two daughters and son (separate bathroom, TV), and my wife and I were ecstatic having the downstairs to ourselves after lights out.
Best B&B ever!!!!
We recently returned from a 14 day trip on the East Coast and stayed at 3 B&B's. I must say that this was the best one out of all three. From the minute that my husband and I walked through the front door, Dan and Tony made us feel welcome. There was always scrumptious cookies put out in the afternoon and the breakfast was just amazing. I felt right at home and could have stayed all winter long. I would definitely recommend The Green Heron Inn to anyone visiting Maine.
We'll Be Back..Again and Again

We are already looking forward to our next visit in the Spring.
The Best Holiday
We have been going to this gem of a place for the past 14 years - but now it is better than ever! Tony and Dan have made it extra special - it is relaxing, clean, delicious (food), great location and if I say too much everyone will want to go!!! We will be back every year!!!
THE GHI: The best damn inn, period!
My wife and I stayed in the cottage at the Green Heron Inn, or "GHI" as I like to call it, and it was great. We could walk to town or to the "Bush Compound," or to the beach across the street!
The food is phenomenal and Dan and Tony are super hosts.
The pumpkin pancakes are out of this world!
MAINE THE WAY LIFE SHOULD BE, that is, if you stay at the THE GREEN HERON INN in Kennebunkport. We have just returned to Pennsylvania after our 11th memorable visit and we love it! The innkeepers, Tony and Dan, prepare and serve their scrumptous breakfasts. They come up with new choices ever day (like Boston Creme French Toast, fresh blueberry pancakes, cranberry-orange bread and much more). We look forward every year to spending time with many of the friends we have made there who return every year, too! Tony and Dan make everyone feel like family. The Inn is so warm and cozy, you will not want to leave.....we never do and we booked our room for next year before we left! Everyone needs to try it! You will love it, too. Bonnie and Tom Griffin
Wonderful! The breakfast is superb -
New this year - the breakfast is only for guests of the Green Heron, and it is amazing.
Location is great, close enough to Dock Square but far enough away to avoid the headaches.
I will tell everyone I know - The Green Heron is great
They put the BREAKFAST in B&B
My wife and I took a road trip from NYC to have an authentic Lobster diner (in Maine). We wound up in Kennebunkport, a little late but ate at a restaurant right next to the Green Heron. I faked a phone call and snuck out during diner to arrange for a room and I didn't realize it until all was said and done, but we were lucky to find Dan and Tony and their wonderful hospitality. They were more than accomidating with no notice and talk about a breakfast worth waking up for. All I have to say is Apple sausage fritatas and raspberry pancakes almondine with raspberry butter. We only stayed for the night and one breakfast, but we'll be back for many more.
I've been to the Green Heron B&B twice, and each time I was quite impressed. I am surprised that it is not mentioned more by others. The Green Heron is not the White Barn, but neither does it charge White Barn prices. I gave it the highest rating, because of value-per-dollar. The rooms are very cozy and cute, clean and well-designed. They are not large and spacious, so don't spend your days there. The breakfast area is a small restaurant that opens to everyone (gratefully, they don't have a single large wooden table, as I had previously experienced). The first time I had breakfast at the Green Heron, I thought it was the best homemade breakfast I had ever eaten. My estimation of the food hasn't budged very much since. I should mention that I haven't been back in 5 years, but I am about to stay there tomorrow night, and this time I'm bringing 3 other couples with me. I am that much a fan of the Green Heron!
