... the Ring tours that this company also does. None of us were LOTR fans and we couldn’t see us doing a trip where you get out of van and be told this was the scene for such and such battle, and then precede to role play the characters. The driver was very into the LOTR. Terry's company takes LOTR fans to a very hidden obscure movie location, unlike where they shot Narnia. Terry pointed out where the big battle scene for Narnia was filmed. It was right beside the ...
Christchurch, South Island, New Zealand orbwennam... this one was not an exception. BUT, the sliding glass door next to the main door happened to be open. We walked in to find a group of people drinking and watching TV. We also found the reception desk was closed until 6AM. At this point we pretty much realized our options were: Sleep in the car or crash in this common room and pretend that we were too drunk/ tired to make our way into our “paid room” if someone found us. I proceeded to sit in a chair facing the TV in the ...
Christchurch, South Island, New Zealand rucamuffinHello from our prison cell in Christchurch ! Don't worry though - this is actually the OLD prison, which has recently been converted into backpacker accomodation. Our four person cell is however bigger and warmer than our campervan, which we sadly said goodbye to today. We're in Christchurch for a couple of days before flying to Brisbane and the sunshine of Oz.
Well, the South Island has been a journey of real contrasts ; weather, scenery, wildlife and lifestyles ...
... br>When we stopped at the quaint little town of Cardrona we couldn't believe our eyes when a girl in an open sports car hopped out and proceeded to put petrol in through a funnel. She was wearing a full balaclava so that only her eyes were showing. She told us that the roof on the car was broken!!! Thank heavens we were driving a cheap Corolla with a roof!
Queenstown is as stunning as everyone says, set on the beautiful Lake Wakatipu with snow covered mountains in every ...
... that landing
helicopters on snow and ice was no longer a clever idea, so the trip
was cancelled and money refunded :(A bit deflated we headed off for a 90
min walking track around Lake Mathesen down the road at Fox and
almost immediately forgot the disappointment as we got to enjoy the
incredible skies from down at non-windy ground level, and then even
better as we were treated to crystal clear reflections of Mount Cook ...
... but I feel that it could have been done better. Finally we went outside for a very exciting ride in an Antarctic Hagglund - a tractored foot ATV that went some steeps rises and down through a very deep puddle (the Hagglund actually floats...) - Josh & Kate loved it. That afternoon we went to the Fudge Kitchen in the Arts centre to do a tour of their fudge making kitchen. The tour lasted about an hour and was MUCH better value than the Cadbury factory tour - we saw the fudge making ...

Christchurch, South Island, New Zealand sabaustralisim... When we got to Greymouth we had a lunch stop. Daddy went shopping for snacks, while the rest of us went for a walk along the riverfront. It was really beautiful. As we were walking back to the train station we met up with Dad who had bought some awesome food for snacks on the train. We got back on the train and headed back to Christchurch. On the way back we all got to the viewing platform and we all ...
Christchurch, South Island, New Zealand mshulist... forest to Porters Beach. There was a lot more to see in the park but as we only have a short amount of time in New Zealand we headed to Takaka in the Golden Bay. Takaka is a nice little town (well more of a village by British standards) with lots of boutiques and galleries; there is a hippy feel to the place which makes it pretty quirky. We wanted to investigate the coastline so hopped back in our spaceship to Pohara, Tata Beach and Wainui Bay which were all very ...
Christchurch, South Island, New Zealand sistersontour... Mummy in the kitchen!
It also reminded me of that tv advert when we were kids where a little girl wakes her Dad up in bed by saying "wake up Daddy, breakfast ready" before serving him up a plate of swiss roll and baked beans! Remember that? It was for a toy kitchen or something.
Anyway, I couldn't believe my eyes, and I suddenly had a moment of clarity when it became absolutely clear that this meal was undeniably going to be a ...
