      Its a trip down memory lane

      This place is old, like seriously old, and it is amazing. The staff are friendly and can tell you the best places to eat in town (Pine Country Cafe has the most amazing list of pies!). The rooms are themed, we stayed in the old bunkhouse. What a little gem!

      Luckily we had collected oiur train tickets yesterday, so it gave us a bit more time before the train left. The wind was really chilly, so like good boy/girl scouts, we thought it best to be prepared for cold in the canyon. Our anoraks or parkas are very lightweight, but excellent for keeping out the wind.       Vegas, Hoover dam, Route 66 and Grand Canyon

      Following on from Death Valley, we spent the morning driving down to Vegas. The first thing we did was go and check out Hoover dam which is about 40minutes drive away. It was great. It's in a very beautiful area with deep canyons. The water of the Colorado River looked amazing.

      ... have time to stop, but we did see a lot of black lava rock along the road. And we saw a lot of mines in the hillsides. They mine coal in the Navajo Reservation. We saw a big power facility where the coal is utilized to produce energy, and we saw the trains that bring the coal to the plant. Yes, like last year, we saw A LOT of trains.
