As I sit here at gate H7 in Fort Lauderdale International Airport, drifting away to Neil Young's "Like a Hurricane," I think back on the last 8 days, and some of the things that I experienced, the things I saw, and the lessons I learned. Tying it all together, one could say.

We didn't know (well, really, didn't bother to check) that we needed proof of onward travel in order to fly to Peru, which we of course did not have. As we would find out later, this doesn't actually get checked by customs officials in Peru, but they won't let you on the plane in the U.S. without it. Normally, they need a return flight itinerary, but since we planned to move on by bus, ...

... the bars where there is a cool breeze blowing. I listen to some music on my iPod and Peter does the same. Mine is Movie Soundtracks (the works of Michael Nyman being a particular fave). I would put my bottom dollar that Peter is listening to either, Girls Aloud, Cheryl Cole or Kylie, possibly Adele. After an hour and a half we go back to our cabin, very aware of how hot the tropical sun can be on our fair, Northern European skin.

... She was splitting, playing pairs, doubling up - I was speechless. And this is a girl I thought I knew. The second being that card counting isn't as simple as adding the number of cards on the table - and I say that, because that method didn't work.

The next day was spent at sea. I wrote some notes down about the trip and Son read a book - probably about gambling.
