Quiet, enjoyable and restful
We spent one night in this beautiful getaway - and wish it could have been more. The room was beautiful and our hosts thought of every detail to make us comfortable. Breakfast was a treat - we thoroughly enjoyed it. The gardens are magnificent. We definitely will be going back for another stay.
Loved the Golden Lantern!
It is a lovely, spacious and large home. Felt like a cross between a B & B and a luxury hotel. We really enjoyed the privacy offered by the unusally large space. The back courtyard was beautifully landscaped and the outdoor fireplace was a great finish to our evening. The breakfast was excellent. Also loved the jaccuzi bath in our bathroom! The owners are very friendly, helpful, hospitable and professional. We also took advantage of the airplane ride which was fantastic. Dinner at the local restaurant was good, though next time I might just opt to buy dinner seperate from the package deal ( it was a good deal, but was way more food than we would have normally ordered, for some that may be just what you're looking for). Overall excellent experience.
It is a great Getaway!!!
Our employees gave us a two day vacation away from them as a Christmas present (I didn't want to go). They saw it on the internet and decided it was where we had to go. They could not have picked a better bed and breakfast for our getaway time (I really enjoyed myself). This Inn is in the great little town of Red Wing MN. The owners of the Red Wing Shoe Co. had it built for them long ago and it is still a beautiful home with different suites and common spaces that are wonderfully decorated and very comfortable to enjoy, with patios and gardens availble outside! We were able to use the nice hot tub built into the room, called the Hide Away and enjoy spending our time relaxing together. The breakfasts were so good that I asked for the recipes! The first day we ate on the patio and the next day in our room, the staff was very friendly and made our meal times fun. I think we will return and try one of their Packages that include things to do in the community and the room someday. This Inn could be used for many occations, business or personal and I am glad we took the time to stay there. The owners were so accomidating they even worked with us on our reservation to fit it into the schedule. Please do yourself a favor and make this Golden Latern Inn you next getaway!
What a special place!
My husband and I have traveled around the world and stayed in many beautiful B & Bs, but there are few that can compare to this one. Located in the (unlikely) town of Red Wing, MInnesota, this inn is truly a special place. There was no detail left unattended do, and the owners have managed to preserve all the beauty and charm of the original home while still making sure that every modern convenience is there. A plate of chocolate chip cookies, still warm, greeted us upon our arrival, and innkeepers Pat and Gary were as gracious could be. Even though we didn't particularly find Red Wing to be a wonderful destination (we were actually there for a family event), it is worth the trip just to stay at the Golden Lantern.
We love this place and highly recommend it to our friends. We like to get away to Redwing and have stayed at various other B&B's and hotels, this is our fave.
Pat and Gary really have taken the Goldern Latern and made it a place of relaxation, romance and mostly, comfort. We always feel like we are warmly welcomed guests coming to visit friends, not customers.
The service is great, they are very accommodating, food consistently excellent (and even delivered to your room) . They also are very helpful and offer many options for restaurants and activities in the area. The only time we ever had a problem was once one of the rooms was too cold and they fixed it right away.
This huge victorian house is gorgeous, with each room unique and most with jaccuzis. They have a great back yard and fire pit to hang out at in the evening.
We particularly like the hide-a-way suite and Meg's room. BTW, this isn't a paid promotion, just someone who's had great service there for several years. We like it so much we're having our wedding there!
Gave Our Wedding A Mother's Loving Touch
Neither my husband nor I are Spring Chickens anymore, so we decided on a small, but classy wedding. It was my Husband, Mike's idea to go back to a Bed & Breakfast we had stayed at one Valentine's day a couple years back. It is a beautiful and charming house, and both of the Proprietors, Pat & Gary were extremely accomodating to us right from the start. We just happened to 'pop in' the first time when they were both in the middle of setting up for a very prominent wedding to be that same day, and they both took the time to show us around and answer questions.
From that day on, we were at least semi-regulars in Pat and Gary';s lives in preparation for our wedding which was nearly nine months away. I had overheard my Beloved, verbally voicing his financial worries about "how much it was all going to cost in the end", and called Pat to voice my concern. With no fuss whatsoever, she agreed to let me make random payments to overall reduce some of the financial stress my Husband would be feeling after the wedding. I sent her payments whenever I could, and she dillegently kept track of the totals paid.
You would think my Fiance' and I were both school kids again since we both had nervous butterflies; we went over things time and time again to make certain things would turn out 'just right.' We measured and re-measured dining and living rooms of the Golden Lantern Inn for the actual ceremony and dinner, as well as dropped supplies off a couple of times before the event.
On the day of our Wedding, Pat made certain we had everything we needed: My Husband was so nervous he had left his new shirt untouched in its package, hence the iron and ironing board! I told Pat I was nervous right before the ceremony and she gave me a HUGE hug and said, "You will do just fine!" Well, Pat was right and everything was PERFECT. She and her husband, Grandson and Housekeeper did not hesitate to assist whenever we needed anything.
We still remain in touch with them. In fact, Pat made such an impact on me, when we left for our Honeymoon and the couple in a Bed & Breakfast were extremely rude and unpleasant to us, I called Pat, "told on the rude people", and felt much, much better. Thank you again to Gary, Pat, and their extended family for their Professionalism with a Personal touch! You helped make our Wedding one of the Happiest & Most Pleasant in our lives!

Cozy, Quaint & Quiet
This BnB is top-notch! You get fresh baked chocolate chip cookies every afternoon, free pop & bottled water, free trail mix and s'mores by the outdoor stone patio fireplace at 9:00 p.m every night. There is plenty of comfortable seating by the fire for all 10 guests. We stayed in Helen's Room that had a balcony which made you feel as if you were in the middle of the country because all you could see were trees. (It is a two block walk to downtown Red Wing.) The sheets and towels are high quality. The only minor drawback to Helen's room was the smallish bed (not a queen as listed). If you are used to a large bed - maybe opt for another room. It was a full house the three nights we were there and we never heard a sound! We even had honeymooners sleeping(?) above us and we never heard a footstep. I am a light sleeper, so that was amazing! The breakfasts were so filling and delicious that you did not need a lunch. The grounds are beautiful as is the rest of the house. There is so much to do in Red Wing...golfing, hiking, canoeing, biking on the Cannon Valley Trail (beautiful...saw foxes and wild turkeys) and walking around historic Red Wing looking at the beautiful architecture of the churches and houses. There are beautiful cliffs also where we saw a lot of bald eagles flying around, especially when we played golf at Mississippi National! I highly recommend playing at MS Nat'l. The golf at Mt. Frontenac was average at best. Some of the fairways were very brown from this summer's drought and there were a lot of trees down (turns out they had 80 mph winds one week before we arrived.) You have to drive to Miesville to eat at Wiederholt's Supper Club..very delicious ribs and you have to eat at Liberty's & Oar D'oeuvre in downtown Red Wing. If you like seafood, order the "Out to Sea" appetizer at Oar D'oeuvre. If you like burgers, I had the best mushroom swiss burger ever at Liberty's. We will definitely return to Red Wing and the Golden Lantern Inn. Innkeepers Pat and Gary were very nice. They were friendly/helpful while still giving guests their space.
From the moment I walked in the door, I could tell I'd have a special experience. The home has a warmth few others match. The service was outstanding, and the food amazing. I highly recommend the Golden Lantern.
I have stayed at the Golden Lantern 3 times. It gets better every time. The owners take great care to treat the guests well and are not intrusive. The rooms are spotless and elegant, most with fireplaces. A little slice of heaven in a charming Minnesota town.
We had such a wonderful experience at Golden Lantern. Fresh cookies when we arrived, they made our dinner reservations for us, smors by the fire when we returned, and breakfast was delicious! The bed was very comfortable, and coffee at our door when we woke up started the day. I would suggest staying here to anyone. We plan to return for our anniversary every year!

... times and it was fun, but there are times I need to be places and getting lost sucks. For example, when I missed class or when 10 of us got left at a train station. Those aren't days I will ever look back on and be like, "Oh remember when we got lost in the train station? Yeah, that ended so well!.. Good times."

So I thought I would let everyone know our itinerary. We will be leaving on the 8th flying in to Amsterdam. We will arrive there at 6:00am on the 9th! Then we will board a train and head to Paris. By the time we get there I'm sure we will loopy from sleep deprivation! We will be in Paris until July 14th. We will hop on the train again and head to London. We do have a couple of things booked in London. On the 16th we will be going ...
