Melbourne

... It is exactly twenty years ago that I was last in Melbourne. Things have changed. More highrise, more outside eating places and better coffee. and they're still friendly. But some things stayed the same. The Melburians are still friendly and helpful but they still drive on the wrong side of the road. We've had 4 seasons in one day and they still eat vegemite (yuk) and a ...

Mount. Dandenong

... time for lunch and we made way to a local home-style restaurant in the Mount. Dandenong area. "The Snooty Fox" as well as the German "Cuckoo" restaurants are about as good as they get in Australia. Today we settled into the Snooty Fox. Ignoring our horridly unorganised waitress we complemented the great food, generosity and atmosphere of the restaurant. After a most filling lunch at a more than reasonable price we followed then snaking road back home.

Phillip island and the great Ocean road...

... headed out into St Kilda. The beach at Melbourne is pretty average, think of any English beach except with palm trees. We wandered down the coast to see if it had anything else to offer and apart from some pretty cool pools on the beachfront there really isn't much to be impressed by. Having decided that this wasn't the area we wanted to spend the day we hopped on a tram and went to the city. Having not seen the harbour front on Australia day we decided to head in that direction ...

Melbourne and the Great Ocean Road

... the sparkling reds were a real hit (and my bet to make it big in the UK very soon). Crossing the Mallee, an area of relatively dry and harsh terrain, we arrived into Adelaide where we were to spend Christmas with Michael's family. The road trip had been a superb way to see parts of Victoria and South Australia. We had seen emus, koalas, black cockatoos, one kangaroo (several dead), barren townships, tasted superb wine ...

Arrival in Melbourne and first impressions

... Mountains. Oh, and on the last day of sightseeing, we went to the CBD... do you know what that means? It drove me crazy until I could ask Anne and Jurgen... it is the Central Business District, or as I like to call it, Downtown. We went to the Melbourne museum which was pretty incoherent, but I got the beginning of an understanding of the aboriginal culture and art I think. Then we went to the Immigrant ...

The road is calling

So we are packing our bags and getting ready to hit the dusty trail again. We have been having lots of going away type celebrations, which include lots of food and wine, so needless to say we have been doing very good lately! Last Wednesday my Argentinian roommates hosted a Argentinian style BBQ, where we built a bonfire in the driveway and used the oven racks to grill pizzas and various meats. it was amazing! we ...

Concerts galore

Life is going great, just finished my job at Mount Mary winery on Friday. They sent me off with a little champagne end of harvest party, and with a nifty mount mary shirt and two bottles of red wine valued at $100 a pop, so I was pretty happy! I will be sad to leave though because they are a really awesome group of people to work for. Its a small group and they are almost all like family. Such a privilege to work for them the past ...
