Fishguard to Newport

... Ian want to join us? Not likely! We head off on the steep slog up to the top - not as bad as expected - whilst Ian heads off to the car park at the other side of Dinas Head. We reach the trig point and the views in both directions are fantastic, just a pity that the sun decides to hide behind clouds as we reach the top making it somewhat hazy. We see the ferry making its way into Goodwick and the cliffs behind it stretching all the way back on the path we walked ...

... French surrendered. Leaving the monument, we drop down into Cwm Fellin which offers some shade in its leafy valley. We cross a bubbling stream and then we are puffing our way back up the other side. This is to be the start of another energetic couple of hours of steep descents and ascents as we negotiate the many inlets. Up ahead the sound of strimmers - the National Trust are busy cutting the undergrowth down for us walkers. We thank them kindly ...

... a 'Captain Pugwash' boat but without the curly waves :-) Up ahead the lighthouse at Stumble Head lighthouse comes in and out of view as I scramble along the rugged path. It's a bit like a mirage in the desert - one wonders if it will ever materialise. Of course, in the end it does, and I flop down on the grass beside the car park to await my taxi ride. I'm surprised I got here first...maybe Ian did decide the climb Garn Fawr after all? Half an ...

Porthgain to Aber Bach

I'm on my own for the first part of today's walk - Ian's knee is hurting so he drops me off at Aber Bach and takes the car back to Porthgain. The path drops down to the beach at Aber Bach where it is a short walk over the pebbly beach. Someone has constructed a mini roundhouse on the beach - quirky. A sharp climb up through a bracken lined path takes me up to join a gently rolling path up to the head of the ...

... ahead. Strumble Head is visible in the far distance, twelve miles as the crow flies but considerably longer by foot...we won't be making it there today! Now, a gently undulating path alongside farmers fields, yellow from harvesting and great rolls of hay littering it's surfaces. Just as we are getting comfortable, another steep descent and ascent presents itself. Back up top, we stop for lunch on a picturesque rocky promontory enjoying the ...
