... It was a very short homily and we were able to follow along with the rest of mass, although were very surprised when the priest pulled out a guitar to lead the Our Father- it was beautiful. ... off a few things at our bunks, and then walked up to the ridge behind the Rifugio. The views were spectacular but it was windy and cold. This hike goes around three famous towers and is very popular. We drove up to the Rifugio Auronzo and started out walking around the three towers. All around, in every direction, the views were spectacular. In one particular direction it looked just like Mordor from The Lord of the Rings trilogy! The limestone and dolomite rock walls are eroded in amazing patterns with sheer vertical walls and jagged crests along the skyline. The colouring is pinkish where the rock is dolomitic. There ...

Today we had a sleep in and caught up on some washing. We had a wander around this typical ski resort with its shops specialising in sports clothes, ski gear and hiking boots. There are so many people here, taking advantage of the warm sunny weather - some with their families - and hiking, using the chair lifts or bicycling through the passes.
