... Surfers Paradise at the Gold Coast.
Special mention must be given to our most memorable night in Valparaiso which was spent enjoying a BBQ hosted by our hostel owner. 30 of his closest friends invaded the hostel where we ate Argentine steak (even Chileans recognize it as the best in the world), drinking Piscola (not as bad as one might think) and watching the entertainment of Chile v Columbia both on and off the pitch.

Day 2: Just so happens to be the biggest holiday of the year!!! In Chile "Dieciocho" September 18th Independence Day! What a day! Started with a run on the beach in Vina Del Mar. Then preparations for the feast. Met lots of family members and only ...
... on Calle Templeman at the corner of Urriola. I had a great salad, risotto, and salmon with really sour fresh OJ. (I love sour stuff.) The atmosphere, staff, and price were great. There I was introduced to Victor Jara, a deceased Chilean folk musician that reminded me of Cat Stevens.
I like Cerro Concepcion best of all the hills I visited. Cerro Carcel is interesting and slightly creepy. It holds the old cemeteries, which sadly have some ...
... beyond hang out in the mall. We had a couple of walks around the city, which was very pretty, and we also went to an Artisan's market where we bought some home-made chocolate. After La Serena, it was only a 7 hour bus ride to get to Santiago. Not much to say about Santiago yet. I didn't get a chance to really explore the city myself, but Lisa checked out some really interesting museums. We'll talk more about it when we get back there. For now, we ...
Valparaiso, Chile lgreens... we rode along the beach! Going over the dunes was so much fun. I let my horse run up the hills, but we had to take it slowly going down very steep dunes otherwise the horses could have been injured. There was one big hill that only about half of us went down. The others were too scared, and we had to meet back up after a little detour. The scariest part was going over this one hill that was very close to a large drop off ...
Ritoque, Valparaíso, Chile etroeschThe plan was to leave the cruise at Punta Arenas and go trekking in spectacular Parque Nacional Torres del Paine to check out some mokre glaciers and snow capped mountains...well... that WAS the plan. After trying to figure out how we could cram all the trekking and sightseeing into a short period of time we decided to sack it off and just relax in our final days before ...
Valparaiso, Chile ej122493... some trail mix from a nice old lady, who I ended up chatting with. I'd have to say that aside from the odd Chino stare, one of the highlights of Chile has been the friendliness of the people. People have come up to me within seconds of me pulling out my map, to ask if I needed directions. And people have always been curious to ask me where I'm from and chat with me, and not simply because I'm a Chino! Anyway, the old lady suggested that if I ...
Valparaiso, Chile pwong... it over and above what was agreed) and will keep to the facts - views great, needs to work on the second 'B' (breakfast) if he's going to market himself as a B&B and most importantly work on his people skills. We will make sure he is well reported on the internet. So after six weeks of traveling together with the Hulls with lots of laughter, fun and expense along the way, we said goodbye to the South African contingent. We're hopeful now that our booze bill will decrease and maybe ...
Vina del Mar, Chile gareth.alanna... The ski area was different from any other we have ever been to, no trees, no boundaries, all white. Trails were defined only by groomed runs. We explored much of the mountain and quickly found our favorite lift which we took varied runs on for most of the day. We skied all day with only a short break for lunch. After lunch Gordon had the idea to go to the other side of the mountain, over there they did not have any ...
