We visited a local chapel which was lovely, the large cemetery where all the tombs are above ground because of the high rock level, saw a bit of Duval Street whih is the main tourist drag then ...

We were both pretty gutted as we were hoping to reveal the surprise in stages but in the end it didn’t matter too much as David seemed very pleased with our plans and enjoyed them so the way he found out didn’t make too much difference at all. What we’d actually arranged was ...

Historical Traveler Reviews The Gardens Hotel Key West

We stayed at the Gardens Hotel for 6 nights in July. We didn't book the hotel until a month before and we were told we would have to change rooms 4 times in the 6 night stay. This became one of the benefits of the late booking because each room we moved into was a step up from the last. On our last night we were given the master suite!!

The hotel is one of the best I have stayed in, the place was clean and the gardens were very well maintained. The staff made you feel special and couldn't do enough to help you. We used them several times to book trips and were pleased with their knowledge.

Every morning we were awoken by the piano at 8:30am letting us know breakfast was ready! One tip though, if you like hot muffins get to breakfast early!!

We really enjoyed staying at The Gardens and had a great time in Key West and would go back without hesitation.

    Spectacular in every way!

In over ten years of vacationing in the Florida Keys, we have never stayed in a more beautiful hotel. Amazing to think that we stumbled upon The Gardens Hotel by sheer accident. The lush gardens, the convenient location, the friendly staff, and the relaxing atmosphere were simply magnificent. It was obvious that they tried to consider even the smallest details to make our stay more enjoyable. We will definitely return in the future. There is no way you can go wrong by choosing The Gardens Hotel.

    Just About Perfect...

Everything said so far in the other reviews has been 100% accurate. My wife & myself stayed at the Gardens for 3 nights for the 1st portion of our honeymoon. I booked too late to secure the Honeymoon Cottage but the Courtyard room we stayed in was beautiful as well. Without going into every detail, suffice it to say that the rooms and grounds look even better in person than on the website. We met the owner Kate & she truly cares about the property & knows the business well- as evinced by the glut of improvements in the short time she has owned the property. The front desk staff is terrific & will cater to your every need, no matter what it is. Of course, you must visit Claude (the poolside bartender) for afternoon libations & great conversation but come quick becuase he is moving up north in August/September. Our biggest complaint (wink, wink!) is that we loved the place so much we tried extending our stay for a few days but unfortunately nobody had any heart attacks (I remember the story Kate!) so we were out of luck due to a full house. The Gardens is the ONLY place I will ever stay in Key West, bar none. Thanks to all for a time we will both remember always.

    Super Stay at Gardens Hotel

    from anonymous

We stayed at the Gardens Hotel July 2004 in the Master Suite. Beautiful room, very luxurious. There were 2 couples. Sofa bed was very comfortable. Staff is most welcoming and accommodating. Grounds are beautiful. Breakfast was presented very well and was quite tasty. Our total group was 9 adults. Friends stayed in the Carriage Suite and said it was super. Highly recommend the Gardens Hotel. Enjoy!

    Loving the Gardens Hotel

    from anonymous

    Wow!

Just couldn't let the moment pass without saying what a wonderful time we had at The Gardens. It was the perfect hotel for us --- close to the noise and bars of Duval Street, shopping, all the water activities -- but far enough away that we felt like we were in our own secluded garden getaway. It was like slipping into a Caribbean paradise every time we returned. Although the hotel had just changed owners and was making significant improvements at the time that we were there (1st week in June 2004), I would return tomorrow if my schedule would allow. It is well on its way to being a sought after property and this is coming from a hotel snob! All the staff were simply marvelous.!

    Romantic Oasis

    from anonymous

We stayed at the Gardens Hotel in July 2004 for two nights and liked every minute of it. The location is excellent, a quiet side street only two minutes walk from Duval Street.

The buildings, the rooms and the garden are very pretty and cosy, the reception was very friendly and helpful.

The only drawback was that there was no porter to help us with our heavy luggage up the small stairs.

The Gardens Hotel is amazing. We will never stay anywhere else in Key West!!

The Gardens Hotel is wonderful. We can see all the improvements that the new owner Kate Miano has made. There is new path lighting, an improved fountain, everything was clean, and the gardens were in impeccable condition. As a matter of fact the gardens were so nice that is where my boyfriend chose to propose to me. The staff was also incredibly accomodating. We plan to return to Key West every year and this is the only place we will ever stay. Thank you to the Gardens Hotel for making our stay so memorable.

    A perfect stay in paradise

    from anonymous

We loved every minute of our stay at the Gardens Hotel. The welcome was warm and inviting, the grounds were like a tropical fantasy come to life, the room was quiet and beautiful, and the staff was very friendly and helpful. It was a perfect stay in paradise. We can't wait to go back!

    Lovely at first glance..

    from anonymous

We have stayed at numerous hotels in Key West. The Gardens Hotel is quite lovely and the rooms are also very lovely. The staff is efficient and the breakfast spead is good (no low carb items though). The "gardens" at the Gardens Hotel, however, are untended and in disarray.

It was dissappointing. We stayed for 6 days and the pool area and fountain areas were not swept the entire time. The "gardens" have dead leaves all over and there was actually litter (swizzel stick, cigarette butts, and paper) in the "gardens". I felt like cleaning it up myself, but hey, that aint why I'm paying these high prices..I suggest that they hire a groundskeeper or a gardener. This place would otherwise have been top notch. As an aside, Key West itself is going downhill fast and I doubt we will return.

I'd never stay anyplace in Key West
