We’d actually heard about the salamander from a German woman a couple of days before. Due to the language barrier, she’d called it a lizard, and she and her boyfriend had pulled it out of the pipe before collecting their water. When they returned later, they found it had regained its throne.

... paper said that we need to be aware of switch backs and high winds but it truly did not register to the degree of the severity of the switch backs. Why for the first time in my life I brushed it off was beyond me BUT I’m glad I did!!!!! I’m not the biggest fan of switch backs and I get myself worked up even before riding them SO someone from above was looking out for me and protecting my nerves from getting the best of me. Up the mountain we went ...
