Historical Traveler Reviews Galleon House Bed & Breakfast Charlotte Amalie

We will be returning here!

from anonymous

My wife and I just spent two lovely days at Galleon House and enjoyed every minute of our stay. Sandy, the proprietor, is relaxed, congenial and serves a terrific breakfast of his own making. The location couldn't be better and the view from our room was stunning. We will make this an annual event.

Besides the huge gash on my leg from the pool

from anonymous

Besides the huge gash on my leg from the broken tiles in the pool our stay there was fine! ( still hasnt healed yet either) Besides that, everyone there at the galleon house was more than hospitable. sandy and martha were very nice! our room that we had , had a beautiful view ( a.c. didnt work that well tho) the galleon is right in the heart of the city which means to go shopping or grab somthing to eat is a few steps away from the hotel. The hotel was pretty comfortable especially the complimentary breakfast cooked by martha every morning was delicious. (cant beat home cooked breakfasts makes it feel like home) Besides the hotel needing some updating and fixing ( like the pool) its a very nice place to stay for the price!! i would definatley stay there again!

Mixed feelings about Galleon House

from JJ53

Mixed feelings about this place because it provides the basics -- but it could be so much better while remaining a budget inn!

The location and views are excellent, the owners are pleasant and helpful, there's a pool, a full breakfast is provided, and it is good value. But, on the down side, it seemed a little uncared for -- the air conditioner in the room was caked with dust and grime, there were junked furniture, plastic sheeting and defunct pool toys sitting near the pool, and the room door/lock was a mess. And, a few small inexpensive amenities in the room would make a big difference -- for example, a picture on the wall and/or a bud vase with a tropical flower would make it feel homier, and a packet of shampoo/conditioner and perhaps a hair dryer would be convenient (even the Motel 6 provides those these days...)

Overall, it is fine for a night or two right now -- but with some minor improvements it could be an excellent small inn suitable for a longer stay.

2 great evenings in Charlotte Amalie

from anonymous

My wife and I stayed at the Galleon house for one night on either end of a 7 night villa rental in St. Thomas. The staff was incredibly helpful and courteous, the rooms were very clean and the breakfast was great. The location is within 2 blocks of the main street shopping and several restaurants. The B&B affords a great view of the harbor and the pool was a nice place to relax in the afternoon sun. We would definately stay here again for a night or two while passing through St. Thomas.

Great Hotel

from lucas

My wife and I spent 2 nights at Galleon House on our way to Tortola on Feb 8&9,2005. We were very pleased with the room and Martha and Sandy were very frienly and helpful. The breakfast was excellent and a great start for the day. I highly recommend the hotel to anyone looking for good accomadations at a very reasonable price, we will be back on our next trip to the Islands.

I made an excellent choice with The Galleon House!

Ok, so you have a budget and you can have a great time in a fancy schmancy hotel or in a budget kind of a place, right? Well this is the place for you. We stayed at the Galleon house from Jan 27-31 and LOVED it. Sure the place can use some fixing up - but for the price?? The beds were comfy, the a/c didn't work great, but open the windows and sliding doors and let the tropical breeze in and who needs a/c? And the View alone was worth the price. Add in the relaxed atmosphere -- you feel like you are in your own private tropical getaway, with the excellent breakfast. The only down side was that there were little gnats flying around sometimes in the room (didn't bite me but got my boyfriend). I have found on St. Thomas if you don't set your expectations too high (like we do in New york and expect only the best) you will be pleased.

We both would definitelt stay here again, room 204 is excellent - nice view, quiet and private.

Note: This b&b is not for elderly or out of shape people. It is atop a hill with A LOT of climbing and if you are not in good physical condition it will not be fun.

Gorgeous View!

My husband & I stayed here for 2 days, January 22-24, 2005 after disembarking from the Windjammer S/V Legacy!

The hotel itself was in a beautiful area and the views from our harbour view, balcony room were astounding. The numerous stairs made it an interesting climb with a pile of luggage but once you caught your breath at the top, it was stunning. The pool wasn't huge but it was DEEP!! It was wonderful! The grounds themselves were beautiful and the atmosphere was very historic feeling!

My husband and I had a great stay there and I'm sure we would stay there again!

Great Value

from kqanilan

Just recently spent 2 nights at Galleon House in St. Thomas. The location is great (easy walk to town and shops), and the owner Sandy is very helpful and friendly. The accommodations are very basic, and the rooms could use a little updating, but for what we paid a night, they were worth the money. Breakfast is also included, which is great considering how much you would pay at a restaurant.

One downside - the bugs. I woke up the first morning with a leg full of mosquito bites, and there were ants in the bathroom.

If you're looking for a cheap, convenient place to stay, it should fit the bill!

A pleasant surprise!

Martha and Sandy were excllent hosts. From the complementary breakfast to the evening drinks we felt like we were part of their family. The property is located in a great place on the hill with only a short walk to town and a quick ride to the beach. The pool is secluded and the rooms are perfect. Our stay at the Galleon House was one of the highlights of our trip. Thanks!

Peace Amongst the Cruise Ships

from anonymous

Under the new management of Martha and Sandy, this a friendly quiet oasis (including pool!) perched immediately above the center of St Thomas, with magnificent views. Martha and Sandy are very welcoming, low key and full of helpful local advice. Rooms are clean and simple, with breakfast on the terrace. A relaxing home away from home a few minutes from restaurants, shopping and the older streets of the town.

Definitely recommended.
